Sometimes I wonder how different the show would be if Danny DeVito never joined, or if they used him as a character that only appeared for a couple scenes per episode.

I've gotta say, after two full marathons (almost done my third) of this show I still enjoy the soundtrack; it's always upbeat and relaxing, which contrasts perfectly with the Gang's shenanigans. I've noticed that Dennis says "idiots" and "savages" much more often after "The Gang Reignites the Rivalry".

Dennis and Mac used to be unable to function without each other but now Dennis openly expresses his hatred for the guy. Also openly loathes his sister. Charlie and Frank haven't really been shown together on their own lately but Charlie pretty much hates Mac now too. Makes you wonder what it is that's keeping these people together. Heeeeey Dennis. Edit: Holy poo poo, on my rewatch of the most recent episode, I just noticed Frank was in the basement when Charlie took the inspector down there. After watching the episode, it reminded me of "Psycho Pete Returns", where it just shows that the gang's perception of everyone else remains constant; Charlie does a lot for the gang, but the gang just attributes everything he does as pointless or they give credit to someone else in the gang.

I really enjoyed seeing Charlie and Dee together, they handle each other's flaws with some light-hearted criticism; I think one of the better scenes in the episode was just Dee and Charlie at the bar, talking before Dennis storms in and starts yelling, because he views everyone else in the gang as trash beneath him and that's what seems to be the source of negative energy in the group. You can actually see Dee's happy, calm demeanor fade in the background as they start cracking jokes about her.

Space Cadet Omoly posted:Does Charlie hating sex and being terrible at it make him and Dee hooking up in The Gang Misses the Boat funnier or sadder or both? Don't know if you're being rhetorical, but... In the context of the episode, it's sadder. The gang were all attempting to move on with themselves. They're trying new experiences; Mac, Dee and Charlie were all attempting to get over their normal behaviors that the other members of the gang would put down. The gang itself socializes through depravity and apathy, and each member of the gang had some negative impact on the others that contributed to their broken, recursive behaviors. With Dee, she was harassed by everyone else in the gang, and in the episode, she tried to get over her stage fright, which was encouraged by Dennis and Mac bringing up the fact that she'll choke which reinforces it in her mind. Charlie might have felt bad about all the times he's hosed her over with the gang, and that could be why he didn't mind hooking up with her. In the end, everything's brought back to how it was in the beginning of the episode and he's probably going to hate sex again; it would be helped along by the gang's ragging on Dee and reinforcing her 'gross' image. But hey, it's just a show. I'd say it's pretty drat funny.

I like how Charlie and Frank are the most stable members of the gang now. Well, Frank's obviously losing it, but at least twice this season Charlie's quoted Dennis (the alleged brains of the group) word-for-word without hearing him say those lines; Charlie and Frank are the only members who're honest about themselves, and are content with their lot in life.
