Being white actually helps the entire point of his character, that of being a privileged monster that skates from pretty much all consequence while everyone around him gets burned to the ground. The specificity of his appearance as, you know, Sting is much less crucial. Same with the punk rock roots now that it's not the 80s. So hey, minorities should get the chance to play more nuanced villains in cinema, so I'm all for it. Making him young does scream this adaption is going to be dogshit though, yeah.

CapnAndy posted:She actually does owe them atonement, and since our society has decided that prison is how you atone for poo poo like that, she owes them prison time. Nah our society is poo poo, gently caress going to jail. quote:If you want to still be called a superhero, nobody should have to make you to go to jail if you do something bad. The defining feature of Cap's side of the Avengers is saying "gently caress you I won't do what you told me" to the government, and specifically it saying it has the right to put them in jail.

BrianWilly posted:There've been enough small crossover bits -- Peggy Carter appearing in Agents of SHIELD, Jarvis in Endgame Both of these are characters that appeared in Agent Carter, which is the only one of the tv shows Kevin Feige was a producer on. Well of the old crop. Carter was also in the films first, so the only real crossover is Jarvis. That's it, in the 8 years since they started making tv shows vaguely set in Marvel world one character has meaningfully crossed over, for like a single 20 second bit. So they could use the older tv bits.....but I doubt they will. This new crop with the movie actors is a bit of a different beast.

Fraction's run does this interesting thing of picking up a lot of deep hits from Hawkeye's past [Making him deaf again was a pretty deep cut. Did you know Hawkeye was deaf for a long rear end time? Sign language in a comic book was neat for a lot of folks.] and also just making up this entirely new character out of nowhere.

It's basically a process of removing their filters. So at first they are maybe a little louder and a little more open in their prejudice, but they eventually progress to....you know, more than that. It's kind of torture porn-y, insomuch as the only narrative goal it serves is to show that Dee has gotten his hands on some very serious power, and he's also a total monster in how he uses it. You don't really need an entire story to get to that point, when the pay off is so trivially obvious. Guess what, the random jackass that stole power is in fact going to get punked by the cosmic being he stole it from. WHO EVER COULD SEE THAT COMING?! As Gaiman says, you can kind of just skip it and you'll miss nothing.

He was more of somewhat amoral strategist, and but also more intrinsically heroic. The galaxy was in a bad place after one of the space events and he thought it could use some guardians. So he put a group of randos together that he thought had potential. Being a disparate group of gently caress ups he figured they needed some motivation. So he had them all mind-controlled to work together. Movie Star-Lord is a retarded golden retriever. (USER WAS PUT ON PROBATION FOR THIS POST)

BrianWilly posted:At this point the mistake itself bugs me way less than the perennial tendency of audiences to just have to try to paper over any perceived slights about the shiny new show they like, no matter how slight or straightforward they may be. The whole point is that it is a small nitpick, it's not the biggest deal in the world, and yet having anyone acknowledge it as maybe not the most airtight writing ever is like pulling wisdom teeth. Maybe it's just that nobody gives a poo poo about this as much as you and they never will? Embrace the diversity of the human experience.

Like here's the deal: If you imagine the show starting out as a 1 and escalating to it's current 10 over time, you'll only ever hear the moments that really kick it up a grade. So like "Wait, did....did Archie fight a bear?" or something might click it up to 3, but there's still like an entire loving realm of things at 3 that are happening that don't get talked about. And eventually people don't even mention "Wait he fought a bear again?" because we are past that now.

Nope, it's crazy from the jump and keeps getting crazier as time goes on. To the point that season 6 is just "gently caress it, makes as much sense as anything", not something legitimately unexpected.
