They'll still be able to sell their old/current output, right?

I think Lucasfilms owns all the comics, so it would be on Marvel/Disney to reprint anything, though I guess Dark Horse can continue to sell through their remaining stock following the loss of the license but I'm not sure.

Is there a way to read One Punch Man legally without having to buy whole Shonen Jump books? Are those scan sites legal? I'm not *too* concerned about it, but it seems like something I'd enjoy based on the pages I've seen in various threads.

I always figured I'd donate them to a children's hospital but then figured I shouldn't since comics seem like they would be a good way to spread infections. I did find out that there is a youth emergency service shelter nearby so maybe I'll shoot them an email to see if they want them.

I remember reading somewhere that if you record the cover prices for every comic you donate you would be able to claim them as a donation on your taxes if you get a receipt. I'm not sure if that's actually true or not though.

This is true of like clothing at Goodwill so it should apply to comics as long as you are donating to a registered nonprofit. Also you still have to exceed the standard deduction to claim the deduction. I should do that actually.

Even at a $4 cover price, if I was exceeding the standard deduction with donated comics I would seriously rethink my comics buying :v:
Ditching a couple decades worth of collection might hit it. For a year.

But yeah, I'm just over the standard deduction on state taxes alone, so anything donated is gravy.

The majority of Bendis-era event comics ended pretty poorly and just served to set up the next event or status quo and often seeped into comics you were reading whether you were interested in the event or not. Not that all tie-in issues are bad, but it can be annoying to be interested in one story only to have another one completely unrelated to it come along and derail it.

Prior to that, crossovers often took place within regular monthly series instead of being off in their own book, which could mean you either skip a book you were enjoying (again, due it being derailed) or you're stuck buying a bunch of comics you otherwise wouldn't to get the whole story. As an example, let's say you were a reader of Amazing Spider-Man and no other Spider-Man comics (something completely possible as ASM has consistently had higher sales than other Spider-Man comics). Along comes Amazing Spider-Man #378, which is Part 3 of 14 of Maximum Carnage. You now either have to 11 comics you didn't care about or skip three months of one you did.

This was especially noticeable in the 90s for X-Men fans where there was an annual crossover across most or all titles for several years in a row. And very few were really any good, and it left the writers with limited time to tell the stories they wanted to tell.

If it'll melt all over them, I'm just gonna take the books out and trash the plastic. Only reason I even have them bagged/boarded was I got the supplies for free.

Spawn's power meter was an interesting narrative idea that could have led to some cool ideas under a good writer on a series that wasn't intended to run forever. Instead they just got to a point where they could ditch it since it was hamstringing them as intended.
