Did you ever install that old UI mod that changed the icons for Data Samples to something more easily distinguishable? Its old, but if you had I wouldn't doubt it would result in this sort of bug, what with all the changes that have been made.

Are there any mods/customisation people have made for this game that might actually be worth installing, come to think of it?

The only thing that springs to mind for me is SweetFX or something like that.

Functional stuff breaks whenever they update the UI, so they're largely broken and forgotten. Cosmetic stuff that has been made has largely been adopted by Cryptic over time (color coded power bar icons, optional UI colors, etc) so that's mostly abandoned now too.

What's not to understand? The people running it get paid by idiots and in return they offer those idiots c-store access at 1/3 of the price. The baffling part is that it's probably a copy of like S2 era STO and who the gently caress would want to go back to that?

Yeah, speaking of the ship guides on the wiki, it would be nice if someone updated or put a disclaimer on all the original wesleyguide PVE builds saying that they're at least a year old or more and probably outdated for several reasons.

I mainly run the turret thing so I can gently caress off to the other side of the objective that's being taken without having to worry about my team. Yeah there are mortars that will destroy your fort but only the ones the minibosses use, the rest barely does any damage. Even if your fort gets destroyed you can poo poo out a new one in literally five seconds and as I said, when they're coming to you it still holds up fine and is easier to control and manage than some idiots charging around everywhere. Of course either will do fine but turret forts are much slower for normal ground content.

Mortars ignore line of sight so you can drop them safely behind a wall somewhere and have them support you all over the map. Especially with the bonus mortar doff, a good volley can easily wipe out the heaviest ground units. That said, phaser turrets are fragile as gently caress and I'd say their usefulness is dubious considering their low damage vs survivability. I still use them on my engy, but if we're talking boffs I'd rather have a tac tearing poo poo up instead.

Mondian

Speaking of kit modules, has anyone actually seen purple MK XII variants of anything that aren't the reputation unlocks? I know they're supposed to be ground drops, but looking at stuff like Thermo Induction or Quantum Mortars it seems the only Mk XII drops are either white or green.

What was the original AP proc again?

And yeah, while the skill system desperately needs another revamp (the science skills especially are both completely obtuse and far too specific next do "do more damage" or "have more HP" that apply to every build ever) it's at least not the launch system. Even if I'm pretty sure they only bothered to revamp it for F2P solely because forcing characters to tightly spec into specific gear and ships made it really hard to sell new ships on the C-store...

Original proc bypassed shields entirely.

I think the problem with the current skill system is lack of choices. In any of the three disciplines there's really only 2-4 skills that are actually used and the rest are completely useless. Re-balancing them would certainly help, but they need to add new abilities pretty badly. Its Star Trek, there is no end to the number of things you can refrequence, rephase, or remodulate. Just give us new powers that aren't dogshit.
