"So you knew of a potentially fatal ignition problem for 13 years. Let's be clear, that means a child attending her first day of school the day you found out would be old enough to die driving one of your cars the day you loving did something about it." That's a tremendous line, dripping with righteous fury from the text alone, and Oliver nailed it in a way Stewart never could.

But doing a story about doctors getting payoffs from Big Pharma at a time when anti-vaxxers are looking for any reason to double down on their beliefs? Gotta admit, tasted a little sour going down.

I'm looking at the Twitter feed, seeing LWT announce they're doing a show on tobacco, and thinking "Gee, we've known tobacco companies were cartoonishly evil for at least 15 years. But I guess we need some kind of reminder..." We sure did. Incredible reporting, topped off with a loving masterstroke of a stunt.

So far they've got six, but The Guardian is claiming that there are as many as 15 warrants out on top FIFA execs. One other, less likely theory going around is that they're waiting for him to declare himself President again on Friday.

I made my way to the cathedral that day, photographing jubilant worshippers flocking to the building, even if their now famous leader was in Rome, waving from a balcony. I myself was struck by the fact that I now knew the man in the Holy See, something I could never have dreamed possible. I assumed that Pope Francis would be the same as Bergoglio, backwards on LGBT and other progressive issues, his church sliding ever more into irrelevance. But was I wrong. Bergoglio as Francis fooled me. Indeed I believe, he fooled us all. To be fair there's plenty of skepticism, validated by The Vatican's reaction to the Ireland vote, but his gestures are progress all the same.

IRQ posted:I am not, so I have to assume it's the accent. Because an Irish chick could do that to me, if I were in any way remotely attractive, funny, or successful like Oliver for that to be a thing. Let me see if I remember this correctly off the top of my head (don't take it as gospel, wait for someone to confirm): Kate was a...combat medic, I think? Anyway, she was an Army vet, and the GOP asked her and some other members of her unit to speak at the 2008 RNC as part of their SUPPORT ARE TROOPS routine. Oliver happens to be there doing a remote, and when the organizers get wind of this, they order security to physically escort him and his crew out. At one point, they have a close call that sends Oliver and his team booking through the upper floors of the hotel, knocking on doors, looking for a place to hide. One of the doors they knocked on was Kate's room, and the rest was history. Interestingly enough, John once told David Letterman that Kate doesn't find him all that funny. Must've married him for his looks. EDIT: Looks like I was beaten...but mostly right, at least! DivisionPost fucked around with this message at 04:35 on Aug 18, 2015 |

I've heard immigrating here as a refugee is tough, I worked with a bunch of Kosovar refugees as a kid in the 90s and the work they had to do to get here was incredible. As a matter of fact, Barry O had some words with Twitter about that today. He mentioned providing $4.5B in humanitarian aid, and is increasing the number of refugees admitted into the U.S. to 100,000 a year for the next two years. He also encouraged everyone to head over to AidRefugees.gov to find out how they, personally, could help.
