Needed to buy some stuff. The AT-AT walker is for my 8 year old. Well, for his birthday in a month. He has no chance in hell building this thing by himself. Desk lamp and headphones are for myself. I had been wanting that lamp for a while and the headphones are going to replace my QC15's so I can have those at work. I was getting tired of lugging them around all the time. Then a couple batteries for some RC toys, a replacement watch band for my Basis Peak not-smart-watch, and finally more lights. I can never have too many lights. 100% Dundee posted:TotalLossBrain, I just ordered that desk lamp a month or so ago and I must say, its outstanding. I was a little hesitant to buy a $50 desk lamp but it's really worth it, tons of different settings and the USB port is really nice to charge my phone with(I put it next to my bed, not on my desk). poo poo, that would be awesome next to my bed. Guess I might buy another.

I bought all this stuff a few weeks ago, but I guess it's still recent. I needed a capable CUDA workstation for my graduate research (electromagnetic simulations). It works pretty well. It's a shame I don't have time for gaming. Having a single 42" 4k screen is the best. And before anyone starts dissing the overpriced Titan-Z - I didn't buy it for gaming. I needed an affordable CUDA card that can actually do double-precision work without a huge performance penalty. Next step up would be their headless Kepler and Tesla line and those are just a wee bit too expensive. That's supposed to be two of those Mushkin SSD's. I am running them in RAID-0 with the 2TB as nightly backup. Edit: That keyboard was hot garbage. I replaced it with a Max Keyboard Blackbird TKL: Much happier with that now. (However, not everyone in the house is - I opted for clickety-click blue Cherry MX switches) TotalLossBrain has a new favorite as of 23:21 on Oct 15, 2015 |

Identical specs, but $239 on sale for a king sized mattress. We got it a few days ago and it feels weird when you first sit/lay on it. However, I can't remember the last times I've slept that comfortably. My wife agrees, so.... I guess for $239 I don't care too much if it doesn't last more than a couple of years.

Our toaster oven broke - the mechanical timer tends to get stuck, resulting in a toaster oven that won't shut off like it is supposed to do. I ordered this infrared-element Panasonic before realizing it was much too small for what we need: My bad, ordered this now:

JPrime posted:I have dual screens and am struggling to see how a single giant screen is better. Are you not just moving windows around endlessly? Also, how is your work space set up that a 48" screen doesn't dwarf everything else? I set up 2-6 windows at a time. I find that better than dual screens because I don't have to deal with two separate viewing surfaces. My workspace is just a desk. I have the screen attached to the wall 1.5 inches above the desk. I am usually 2-3 ft away from it. It's probably very much a case of personal preference, but for me it's the best I've tried (I do frequently deal with 6 screen setups at work or even video walls)

After an unfortunate accident, I am now using an LG 48" UHD smart-TV, not sure of the model name. I got it on Black Friday. It was one of the higher quality 4k displays, but it still only has HDMI ports, including one 2.0. I'm using an active HDMI->DP adapter now and while it looks nice (4:4:2?), it is noticeably worse than the Wasabi 42", which used DP.

They'll be my main prescription eye glasses, not sunglasses. I do have prescription sunglasses, too, because I am drat near blind.

I've been using my M8 for exactly two years this month and it is kind of falling apart (case is bent), it's slow as hell, but it still works great. I've been considering replacing it, but I cannot make up my mind between a small Android replacement (like the Sony Experia Z5, unfortunately not available for Verizon) or a larger one like a Galaxy Note so I can get rid of my tablet, also getting old. I guess as long as the M8 keeps ticking, I'll use that.

The first tool they used was a miniature Dremel-type device with a curved backstop they slip between ring and finger.
