I test drove a Touring 2.0 XT and it was an absolute blast. If the 2.5i is anywhere remotely similar, I bet you'll love it.

2.5 felt mushy and a pain to get up to highway speed. I was keen to buy a Forester but then I drove the admittedly slightly smaller Toureg with a 200hp 2L turbo AWD and it felt quicker, more nimble and simply more fun to drive for the same price.

Aside from a ~1 hour ride out of the city to my dad's once a week, it effectively WILL be a grocery getter for me. I take public transportation to work, and Uber almost everywhere else, because Uber is cheaper than parking. But yeah I was aware of the mileage, etc before I bought it. My 2nd Scoob was an Outback - in the highest trim level - and while plush - the absurdity of paying that much for a grocery getter wound up hitting me pretty hard. Only reason I went above base on the Forester was the moonroof, which I will actually use a lot. Glad to hear it feels large - I have music gear to move around sometimes.

The Manual or the Auto? I had almost the opposite experience. The Toureg felt sluggish to me, and the Forester was nice and zippy. I actually can't figure why the Forester has a 6th gear, because it definitely didn't seem to need one - even at 80mph. I also test drove the CrossTrek which is definitely underpowered.

The Outback I had came with the 2.0XT with a CVT. An impressive power plant. I had a lot of fun test driving the Forester, but it feels a good bit different from the 2.0XT.

Autos to Autos. It may just be the CVT.

I've leased a few cars. Never keep them past the terms. Your selection is generally restricted to popular models. I got one weird deal on a 2008 Subaru Legacy sedan for 1.5k down and $125 a month for the term and then they gave me 2k credit for the car at the end of the lease. It wasn't even a stripped model. Residual value is weird.

Generally I've leased my last couple mid range vans(30k Honda and Toyotas) for 3k down and 300 a month. The kids beat the poo poo out of them but I generally still about 1k in trade for them due to low mileage.

You can get a lots of cars for under $200 with $1000 down. If you got decent credit of course. Honda Civic and Toyota Corollas come to mind. There was a similar deal on a Cruz recently but I'm not a fan of Chevys.

Congrats on the house and the huge down payment. I assume you're doing a 15 year mortgage to top it off?

If I move from where I am now the NW is my #1 choice, even if there is a huge quake/tsunami due to gently caress it all up.

Nah the mortgage is for tax purposes. We could have just payed full but some investments have a possibly greater return than the 3.5% we are paying right now. If we don't see a good return we can still just liquidate, pay it off and move on.

The NW is amazing and I prefer wet and overcast over blazing hot and dry.

I was waiting for this. Houses in the Bay Area generally don't have basements and she has not sold yet. But don't worry Bill I'm a part owner on her house too and I'll get my cut of it when she does.

My previous house skyrocketed (I bought it very close to what would become the main Facebook campuses on chance a decade ago) and I decided to cash out because a ton of new housing is being made in my city and services are already over taxed. I don't have a job in the tech sector so why stay? Housing anywhere outside Bay Area, California just feels .... Normal.

I have lived in the bay area for a long time and have not heard anyone say "west bay". Oakland is "east bay". But I'm not up on what "the gangs" say, as you apparently are.

Oh lord, really? In correlation to said east bay there is a zone across formentioned bay referred to as the west bay due to it being geographically west of the center of said bay. It is also known as the peninsula due to jutting out of the South Bay region but separated from north bay by the only straight of water from the ocean into the bay.

Glad to of helped! Now go get a real car like that and drive it through hunters point!
