I'd rather just have mandatory gun training and registration for licenses with databases made encrypted/blind except when requested by subpoena (ie you can't access the names of individuals without proper cause). Of course this would make me a commie to the NRA, so it's pretty hard for me to be anything but a socialist in the eyes of 45% of America these days. Na dude you're OK here. The big problem with the whole gun thing is the right doesn't really get the responsibility of owning an object whose sole purpose is to kill/maim. Half the time it's a big dick contest. The other half is finding excuses to justify killing others.

Fried Chicken posted:In some of the areas we need them, yeah. But in some cases its not just a matter of having the solutions, but one of getting the solutions deployed in time. No one wants to pay to shift from oil and coal to methane and solar, but it is cheaper, carbon neutral, doesn't require infrastructure changes like the claim, and doesn't require the battery storage they claim either. It just happens to cost the existing interests a lot and benefit a new crowd. Eventually costs will force it, but the damage done by then will be huge. Stuff like this is the big problem. Phosphates make you, uh, literally go. So, unlike nitrogen, the phosphates end up in the water then? Nitrogen's pretty easy to fix on a smaller scale with crop rotation. Some plants come with little buggers that fixate nitrogen for the plant to use. Phosphates aren't as nice I presume. There are a few other little micro nutrients, too, that get hit on with soil depletion. A lot of the first-row transition metals are needed for plants and humans alike. Now doesn't this kind of go back to the energy problem? I imagine there are a lot of little goodies extractable from seawater. Just that current methods take gently caress loads of juice. That's why I'm still on the nuclear bandwagon. Only way to meet our needs with current technology that isn't fossil fuel. Besides being powered by atoms so big they shake themselves apart is pretty sweet.

This happens all the time; the courts rule public education sucks and the Legislature has to fix it, the Legislature tries to shuffle around a bunch of existing money and raise accountability standards and try to find zero cost solutions to the what I will charitably call the education "problem" in the state. Republicans will pronounce the problem fixed and then every school district in the state will sue the state for violating the state constitution and the pattern will repeat. So that's why Rick Perry goes around the country talking about Texas. He's trying to attract talent his state has trouble producing!

It's a very homogeneous place to live, with tons of white people. Lots of Nebraskan youth are married while in college, or soon after, and are pretty religious. All this probably contributes to it. I lived in the Western part of Nebraska for a year. It was miserable for this reason. There really wasn't anything there outside of health care for the aging population or those in agriculture.
