I would say what makes RE4 nice is the variations on reloading the pistols, esp. the Red9 and the Broken Butterfly.

Well, to break up the MGSV-fest; in Undertale you have two characters who will make you NOT despise Comic Sans and Papyrus fonts. Also, the music is pretty great. And by pretty great I mean outstandingly so.

Strategic Tea posted:Yeah, more than any game I've played (and more than most books and films I've seen) Witcher 3 seems to nail being miserable without being grimdark, and happy without glossing over everything that's wrong. It's a very genuine view of the world. Yeah, for some reason, I actually enjoyed the Witcher books and game stories much, much more than GoT. It doesn't gloss over really lovely stuff, but embraces the supernatural stuff in such a way that isn't nearly so jarring as it is in GoT. I actually started to care for the characters in the Witcher, which is damned more than anything GRRM managed to do.

In the newest DLC for the Witcher 3 has a reference to the oldest novel recorded in the opening: The opening scene has a knight charging at a windmill. But it actually turns out to be giant just behind it.

BioEnchanted posted:By the way, I get that Witchers are infertile due to the bizarre experiments that make them such badasses, that's obvious. But why Sorceresses? What is it about their magic that makes them infertile, or is it just because of the overabundance of magic 'irradiating' them? If I remember correctly it was a self-imposed sterility imposed by the original founders to prevent any sorceresses trying to establish a royal lineage and thus consolidate too much power.

Metro 2033 was the same, and the rotary semi-automatic shotgun was even better because if it was completely empty, you couldn't fully load it because the breach directly opposite to the one in the firing chamber was sealed off. Really gave the gun a slap-dash feel.

Something I noticed wasn't mentioned in the LP; so here it is. In Shovel Knight, you have a duck button, but it lowers your character by exactly one pixel and is essentially a joke button - I think it's a reference to a MegaMan game? Anyway, the last stage of the last boss summons energy balls that traverse the stage in a horizontal parabola, and are incredibly hard to jump around/dodge. Unless you go on a low platform directly below them and duck. You're JUST short enough to do that.

In Dishonoured 2, there's a scene in the silver mine slum area where you encounter two Overseers, one grievously injured and begging for his comrade to put him out of his misery. If you use domino ability on the two, the guy mercy killing him will also kill himself.

One thing I liked in Dishonoured was the 'magic words' when using the powers - i.e. 'Enhanced Eyes' for the vision detection powers. Damned if I can make out what's said for the other powers.

Inco posted:The best QTEs are from The Wonderful 101, especially near the end where the team is all piloting a giant robot, and the player has to mash A furiously to save the Earth. The camera cuts inside the cockpit halfway through the sequence to show that all the heroes are also furiously mashing their A buttons as well. The Wonderful 101 is such a charming game. Yeah, but did you notice Wonder Black, the gamer, presses the button the fastest while Wonder Yellow, the oldest (and thus not up with gaming techniques) presses it the slowest?

One thing about Spec Ops: The Line I remember thinking was interesting was that when they tried to put in actual choices, i.e. earlier designs allowed you to go back home with the intel re. survivors or you could choose not to use W.P., players inevitably went for the more 'moral' choice. This is why the game was a good experiment, but Undertale did it better.

After seeing an L.P. of it, I got round to playing Prey. Going through the tutorial which teaches you basic movement/interaction has your character being observed by a bunch of scientists who become perplexed over the things you do to move around the chambers. Because you were supposed to have had more installed that would give you the later telekinetic/telepathic powers. They expected you to use them in the tests.

It even has the same thing going on where he knows she's lying but acts friendly and polite until he suddenly reveals he's known from the start.
