Also, fair warning to anyone thinking of going to Great Lakes for shore duty (lol like people loving pick coming to this shithole): CSCSU got a new CO and he's pretty garbage, instructors aren't allowed to bring any personal electronic devices in any 'training' area (so the entire school house) and if at any time we need to leave the classroom the entire class must log out of their computers and go out in the hallway. Why you ask? Because a student was found sleeping in a class without an instructor. Please someone help I can't kneejerk any further.

He's very scared of being a civilian you see, but I would be too if I was in the navy for thirty two years and never got a degree.

Sir Lucius posted:The command is upset at the lack of participation in the JSA and FCPOA. You'd think the 60% chief advancement rate would be a good indicator that people don't give a poo poo about clique organizations and just have their sights set on getting the gently caress out. Unacceptable. More bake sales are needed. We now need to lock our classrooms when they are empty. I'll reiterate that students can only be in the classrooms when we are, and some of us leave pretty often due to collaterals and poo poo. Also we have to put the students in break every hour, and their break is our break so we'll leave then too. This wouldn't be an enormous deal if there were more than three loving keys. I'd text the guys with the keys but we aren't allowed to have cell phones in this unclass building. The lack of trust the upper chain shows to us here is absurd, and I can't wait for all of the training stoppage to be reported to big brother Dahlgren, and the IG comes next week so that'll be good. Maybe we can get this CO fired? Probably not though.

More micromanagement at the shitstain that is fc/et/bm/qm/gm/ic a school. Students must be in class for fifty minutes, then have a ten minute break, no exceptions. This introduces a few problems which I mean if I can see I'd hope the chain of 'command' could see, most notably that the entire loving schoolhouse will be in break at the same time. Good luck getting coffee in ten minutes with a line of 400 people.

Pandasmores posted:Why not just have it to where you have to give the class a 10 minute break at any point when they need it, limiting it to an hour in between breaks so you're not crowding up the head and everything else? Why not just let the instructors put the class on break when they feel it's warranted? Because there is no place for common sense in the military.

You're going to hear the same thing from everyone here. Don't settle for anything other than CTN. A hilarious number of FC students I have were roped into FC/ET because the recruiter told them you can still do networking. What they didn't tell them is that there are a dozen different specialties in the FC field and there is exactly one that deals with networking, and it rarely shows up. So if you want CTN, don't go in unless you get CTN. Also you have a bachelor's, go the officer route.

Officer is interesting, but when I say time is limited. I don't mean on the Navy's side. I mean for myself. My living situation may only hold out for another 6-8 months at best, and by that point I'm hoping to be in basic training. I'm just going to say that I was literally living in a car and still held out for FC instead of leaving immediately as something lovely. It's the next 4+ years of your life and your job is an enormous part of it. Don't settle. Also don't enlist, commission instead.
