Hey, I'm about to buy into both X-Wing and Armada. Are multiple core sets necessary in either game? I've heard people say more dice are useful, but is there a reason to buy an extra core set instead of just buying an extra set of dice?

Two cores for X-Wing is probably ideal, but not necessary, and two cores for Armada is completely unnecessary I would think.

My local store moves a ton of FFG product, and they've pretty much straight up said on Facebook that they are going to have the core sets in in Friday. I'm not convinced there's any sort of exclusivity at all, as opposed to only certain game stores got the opportunity to order product, with most of it being allocated to big box stores to fill their quotas.

While that may have been the case before wave 7, I think at this point more are being bought for the Ys than the Zs.

I'd like to know how that list works out. I'll be playing tomorrow night at a friend's and might borrow his Punisher to try it out.

I played one match last night, against (IIRC) Chiraneau w/ Expose, Rebel Captive, Darth Vader; Rexler Brath w/ Predator, Stealth Device (he was at 100pts, if that's less than 100 I'm forgetting something).

Early game Redline got a 5-6 damage cluster missile shot into Chiranaeu while taking focus fire from both Chiraneau and Brath, while Kenkirk was able to put two damage on Brath through Ruthlessness. I don't think my opponent took that card into account at all while maneuvering. Redline only got the one shot off before biting it via a Vader choke which left Chiraneau at 1 health. Kenkirk finished him off, then managed a range 1 four damage shot on Brath which my opponent rolled no evades four with his stealth device, and that was game.

I think I'd modify the list by dropping the Gunner and Ruthlessness for Predator and a Recon Specialist. Predator is kinda like a budget Gunner, and the Recon Specialist makes the Decimator slightly more tanky once its lost its shields and Yssard and Kenkirk's abilities come into play. I'd need to play the list a few more times to see if its worth dropping one of the two sets of Cluster Missiles on Redline for say, Engine Upgrade on Kenkirk. I'd need a larger sample size of how many shots Redline gets off in a game before making that decision, though.

And for the record I lost like a chump in Armada afterwards.

At the rate Disney is likely to be producing content, and the willingness Lucasfilm seems to have to work with the design team (Imperial Raider), I reckon it is going to be quite hard for FFG to run out of tiny plastic spaceship designs.

The 180 on the satan boat was really obnoxious trying to position Fel. I sort of swung him out way to far and he got swarmed by the fighters, and while Vader and the Shuttle were able to bring down the hellbrick, it ended up being a poor trade and he was able to overwhelm them.

My decision to upgrade Palpatine's driver for stress management was validated when the only time he got to take his Tactician Double Tap I was able to gobble up the stress that would have went to Vader.

Also in MTG it'd say something like "(tap): flip this card" or something, and I don't see how FFG wouldn't do the same.

A rules explanation card (like for almost every other upgrade with janky mechanics saying that you can choose to flip the card when you reveal your maneuver dial. Easy, and keeps the card itself tidier, since if you put that text on every dual card you wouldn't have the physical room for much actual upgrade printed there.

THREAD MOVING FAST EDIT: I hope they do this because it makes the card a lot more interesting than a free PS boost (which is what it'd be most likely on ships where you wouldn't take any other EPT).

If it's simply on a per game basis then the card is going to be a whole lot more situational, especially considering that you have to put it on a ship with an EPT slot that you decided to otherwise ignore when building your list for some reason.
