I've heard people say more dice are useful, but is there a reason to buy an extra core set instead of just buying an extra set of dice? Two cores for X-Wing is probably ideal, but not necessary, and two cores for Armada is completely unnecessary I would think.

Yeah, there's no way this stuff isn't in stores on the 4th of September. Episode 7 marketing blitz go go go. Conveniently, I need a new 3-bank template!

I think there will be enough of the old core sets and pilots around that wedge et al. won't be scalped. I was gonna kinda bitch about this, but I've bought a total of 10 core sets for 4 LCGs and 2 Wangs core sets already, so whatever. Not like I wasn't going to buy it anyways, those dials.

My local store moves a ton of FFG product, and they've pretty much straight up said on Facebook that they are going to have the core sets in in Friday. I'm not convinced there's any sort of exclusivity at all, as opposed to only certain game stores got the opportunity to order product, with most of it being allocated to big box stores to fill their quotas.

According to some people the new asteroid is even bigger than the old one so I could see cases where you literally can't fit a 6th (or maybe even 5th!) obstacle. Nothing in the two new rulebooks about this situation occuring.

The Redline/Deathrain list I was running was pretty effective, Deathrain can Conner Net people for Redline to then wreck (since they can't get evade/focus). REDLINE/DECIMATOR Lots of three dice attacks out of two ships. 100 points PILOTS “Redline” (41) TIE Punisher (27), Fire-Control System (2), Extra Munitions (2), Cluster Missiles (4), Cluster Missiles (4), Autothrusters (2) Commander Kenkirk (59) VT-49 Decimator (44), Ruthlessness (3), Ysanne Isard (4), Rebel Captive (3), Gunner (5) Hoping this hilarity will work out to my advantage. If not, no big loss.

Tacopocalypse posted:I'd like to know how that list works out. I'll be playing tomorrow night at a friend's and might borrow his Punisher to try it out. I played one match last night, against (IIRC) Chiraneau w/ Expose, Rebel Captive, Darth Vader; Rexler Brath w/ Predator, Stealth Device (he was at 100pts, if that's less than 100 I'm forgetting something). Early game Redline got a 5-6 damage cluster missile shot into Chiranaeu while taking focus fire from both Chiraneau and Brath, while Kenkirk was able to put two damage on Brath through Ruthlessness. I don't think my opponent took that card into account at all while maneuvering. Redline only got the one shot off before biting it via a Vader choke which left Chiraneau at 1 health. Kenkirk finished him off, then managed a range 1 four damage shot on Brath which my opponent rolled no evades four with his stealth device, and that was game. I think I'd modify the list by dropping the Gunner and Ruthlessness for Predator and a Recon Specialist. Predator is kinda like a budget Gunner, and the Recon Specialist makes the Decimator slightly more tanky once its lost its shields and Yssard and Kenkirk's abilities come into play. I'd need to play the list a few more times to see if its worth dropping one of the two sets of Cluster Missiles on Redline for say, Engine Upgrade on Kenkirk. I'd need a larger sample size of how many shots Redline gets off in a game before making that decision, though. And for the record I lost like a chump in Armada afterwards.

At the rate Disney is likely to be producing content, and the willingness Lucasfilm seems to have to work with the design team (Imperial Raider), I reckon it is going to be quite hard for FFG to run out of tiny plastic spaceship designs.

To be fair I don't think it's a particularly good way to use C-3P0, and I think that combo on the Ghost is a waste of its two crew slots; but it is a valid combination.

I liked the Decimator/Redline combo when I played it, but wasn't using the same setup. Only got one or two games in with it though, so I can't comment much other than hope you do well, since it's a fun pair of ships to fly. I can't wait to try it again but with Long Range Sensors on Redline, since I don't think the current suite of modifications have a particularly good match on the Punisher.

I suppose now that I read Long Range Scanners a bit more closely, seems its clause would prevent the FCS from acquiring target locks inside range two, which does indeed diminish its value quite significantly...

Admittedly I haven't yet played Poe, but if I was gonna run him with BB-8 it'd always be with VI to get the most out of maneuvering last (hopefully). The extra actions without stress with PtL is nice and all, but I don't think it plays to Poe's strengths enough.

I think I'd take the Shuttle over the Decimator for a must have, since you can run an Omicron Group Pilot w/ Vader with just that expansion. The Decimator likes to have a lot of upgrade cards, which you may or may not have (I don't know!). Aces is good, but Soontir comes in the Interceptor pack, so I'd grab that as well.

Not sure how I feel about the Mist Hunter's dial, but having 1 turns available and two speeds of K turn is pretty nice for a smuggler boat. I have a feeling I'm gonna be getting this expansion mostly for the upgrades as opposed to flying the ship.

This is why I'm really hoping it's flip on maneuver dial removal, since it's an extremely limited card without it, and will not see play very much.

It had absolutely nothing to do on the actual merits (or not) of tractor beams as written.
