Over the summer, I volunteered for a bit at a homeless center; food, meals, shower, laundry, that kind of thing. They had case management but I didn't have the skills for that. They also had classes to teach writing basics and the like (my favorite was the weekly poetry stuff). There were a LOT of veterans, most of them were ordinary people, a few obviously needed medication. I didn't see any families but that may just have been the area. Many of them had a cheap Android or Windows phone and a pair of cheap earphones, or a cd player or something.
