A coordinated effort between the US government and Venezuelan reactionaries to stage a coup.

No it is not. Maduro is the one who staged the coup several years ago by ignoring the results of a general election that went against his party by unconstitutionally creating a new legislative branch and continuing his policy of eating empanadas from a desk drawer while his cronies steal everything they can. There's seriously a whole thread in D&D about this.

A common trope that often works its way around is that "a country exists in the Americas, therefore it must be a republic!" You see this a lot with romanticized American views of the 18th and 19th centuries, conveniently ignoring the countries own greatly limited democratic systems until 1963.

People easily forget the fact that "republic" just means a country without a monarchy, and that not-at-all-democratic states like North Korea and Mobutu's Zaire and the USSR were/are legitimate republics.

You know, randomly clicking this thread and seeing the exact same people stanning for Morales that were stanning for Maduro in the Venezuela thread in the exact same ways is highly amusing to me. It's literally exactly the same, all the way down to nebulous unsubstantiated claims of CIA interference and casual hand-waving of really obvious blatant election fraud.

Hell, the general situation is almost the same as it was in Venezuela some years back, except the police and military arn't in Morales' pocket so he couldn't get away with stealing the election.

Oh please, this is nothing like Venezuela. Morales isn't Maduro and the Bolivian "opposition" drat sure aren't the same as the Venezuelan opposition.

Are we looking more at a Honduras situation? Some iffiness by a leftist leader leads to unrest and ultimately their unseating. The candidate of the right takes power after an election and then proceeds to do much worse poo poo than the leftist leader got up to (and do what they used as the pretext to unseat the leftist leader). Country then descends into further unrest, disruption, and violence.

I don't know if Morales got up to actual iffiness, but this seems like the most likely trajectory Bolivia is heading down.

Really, let's cut to the chase. The PSUV, contrary to your insistence that they are bloodthirsty killers, are determined to avoid either civil war or US invasion. This produces contradictions, much of the Venezuelan capitalist class sees no reason to tolerate a government that they don't control, and so do all that they can, in collaboration with the US to bring it down. The government is unwilling to act decisively against them because it would in all likelihood mean war, but they are unwilling to just surrender political power back to the capitalists, who they know perfectly well will launch the most vicious reprisals, so just as Allende did, they seek a peaceful, gradual route to socialism. High oil prices allowed them to overcome the contradictions that brought Chile to its crisis, but now those contradiction come roaring back. You know perfectly well, if the capitalists regain control what it will mean. It will mean a bloodletting, it will mean the millions of homes the government has built for the working class will be handed over to landlords for pennies.

None of this is based on facts or evidence or anything. It's rhetoric with a few examples of historical events acting as scare quotes.

I don't think anyone will argue that Guaido isn't a total incompetent but that's what happens to an opposition when the leaders are jailed one by one over a period of years. The PSUV are probably letting him run around because they know how much of a total failure at everything he is.
