The email reply is worded as if they're talking to an old person who's never used a computer and had trouble working out what a new tab was; not someone who found a flaw that could destroy their entire business, nice.

Powercrazy posted:This is good policy of course, but as a home user, what is the best way to get remote access to your desktop? Obviously I don't have a 2 factor RSA services or anything crazy like that. i mean the thing is if you can do it so can literally anyone else in the world so the best chance you have is to never put the ip anywhere and also use a super strong password via keepass or lastpass or w/e and hope to hell whatever you're using doesn't have an insecurity vOv I mean the other good option is "why do you need to"

Rufus Ping posted:Lol at thinking the problem is with some kids messing about having a laugh and not the police force who deploy a loving swat team to a 911 call, knock doors down without warning, and come within a hair's breadth of shooting an entire family, for which they would not be charged, let alone found guilty It being "a joke" doesn't excuse what they've done. I'm not in America so I absolutely don't want to excuse the horrible swat poo poo, but the people pulling the swatting absolutely know the police will in fact do that, and also they're rarely ever "kids", normally fully grown adults who act like children.

$100 says that after they add expiry date support, the entire system is going to break when your expiry changes on your card e: $key = md5($creditnumber . $expirydate) secure

why do people want to keep making IM encryption services that pass through their own servers when all most people want to encrypt IMs for is to be weirdos and share child porn or discuss hacking or w/e which means you're the one who's gonna get in trouble too

i mean ok get this, what if i send my private key (to someone to communicate with later) in 20 chunks of single characters via 20 different lovely disposable email services (alternatively for extra security using different computers at n different libraries or w/e) is that security through obscurity

Storysmith posted:the point of public key crypto is that you have a pair of keys, one public and one private, and the person you're communicating with does too, so you'd send a thing encrypted with your private key and their public key and they can read it with their private key and see it matches your public key my post was in response to Illusive gently caress Man posted:yes. exchanging poo poo in advance (eg: gpg and key signing parties) is secure, but nobody wants to bother with that poo poo, and it's not really feasible in many of the circumstances where you would want to communicate secretly. basically
