Citizen Tayne posted:James Kuntzler covered exactly this in The Geography of Nowhere. It's impossible to make a private space like a mall a public space because the point of public space is that you can do what you want (loosely within the law). As soon as there are management and security there to tell you to gtfo if they don't like you, it ceases to be a gathering space. also everyone here would probably enjoy Kunstler's eyesore of the month feature

bubble idea: cookr, order a meal from a local "food sharing" provider at a standard price and it's delivered, and you need to neither pay nor tip the deliverer the "food sharing" providers are unvetted independent contractors paid a percentage who prepare meals using entirely their own facilities, recipe, and ingredients the company uses its vast VC funding to fight any attempt at regulation for sanitation, safety, quality, or licensing because they're just connecting people who want food with those who have food to share, checkmate

Nintendo Kid posted:since diet coke was going to be its own product that could be dropped if it failed, they didn't see a reason to try to copy the regular coke flavor. I thought they iterated on developing a flavor people would identify as "Coke" despite the use of aspartame as a sweetener (making it taste way sweeter than regular coke), and then used the Diet Coke flavor as the basis for New Coke (née Coke II, which was still available as of the late 90s!) in response to the Pepsi Challenge Max Headroom was also involved

Shifty Pony posted:uber has all the data they need to accurately estimate net income for drivers. they require you to disclose your car's year, make, and model which combined with their knowledge of miles driven is enough to get fleet average fuel economy/cost and depreciation numbers. it just isn't in their interests at all to do the calculation. they don't even have to do fleet average with that, they could do it literally for every driver, automatically. but if they're computing what their drivers will make after all taxes are taken out and vehicle depreciation and insurance taken out and such, it leaves more of a paper trail for someone to turn around and say represents that they think of their drivers as employees and they should be reclassed as such and back taxes + penalties paid. I really hope a state tries that tack and succeeds at it, even without such a paper trail.
