We played Mage Knight and after doing the tutorial decided to do blitz coop. It took us about six sleepy hours to complete though we only just won, so I think we made a few mistakes with regards to capturing castles or are just slow people. Fun game and people enjoyed it, but it's going to be hard to get people to play it again sadly.

Dominion, no contest. Mostly in person though, I don't necessarily love the online version. Netrunner is a close second.

It's just some cute kid, relax. I ordered WsdV! and twilight struggle after a bunch of reading on each of them. Hopefully they'll see some play this week.

If the copper cards are as well used as I imagine, their backs should have nice white spots to write 'PROVINCE' on

He's right

Though I'm a sucker for KS exclusives. The game looks... more like something meant to be sitting pretty on a shelf somewhere than something to be played. It's supposedly a quick-playing game (60-90 minutes playing time) but setup looks like it takes quite some effort mostly due to the miniatures. Maybe my friends and I are just clumsy idiots, but any game with lots of miniatures has at least 10 minutes tacked on to the setup.

I just bought a copy off amazon.de since I'm in the Netherlands (there's only one version and it's german/english). We were both new at it (and a little inebriated) so I mostly tried to push for socialists until I figured out that hey, I'm being out-econed hardcore. The subsequent end-of-era left me barely hanging on at which point we called it.

The last party I went to we played Two Rooms and a Boom, which was infinitely more entertaining than CaH. It scales up better, doesn't involve waiting, and people get to stage coups so they can go outside on a hot summer day.

You finished before closing time? Man, I really want to play that again, but because we took such a long time playing it I can't get anyone interested in a multiplayer game. Maybe I should host an evening and make them pick between Mage Knight and Civ:TTA.

So if I want to buy one of my friends a few games suitable for 2 players and they have Terraforming Mars on their wishlist, should I get that or go for something else? I've already got Castles of Burgundy ordered, which was on their list as well, but I heard some negative things about TM in this thread.

As someone who was super hyped for DS, I pretty much only get to play it with others when doing a quick boss attack type game. The minis are excellent and will definitely see use in d&d, but the game itself with the base rules is too greedy with regards to time and table space. It helps sorting the cards and minis for quick setup, kinda like mage knight.

So if I understand correctly it's totally viable to play several parties at once? What if people bail, wouldn't that kinda cause their legacy'd choices to be wasted in some way?

It's a bit of a silly question but I don't want to get any more spoiled by bgg posts. Can multiple people play the same character, and can other people start to play one after it's retired?

76 on feast for Odin, and it was pretty fun with four! Winner got 79, and it was all really close with the last player coming in at 67. I went for an early knarr, got Iceland, and emigrated a lot. Didn't fill up my board enough and got like 21 negative points, but that's for next time. We all loved the game though.

I can't believe how much I'm enjoying Feast for Odin. It feels like I can play it every day for a month straight and still like it, and that's with 2, 3, or 4 players. Tomorrow I get to play it with 2 or 3 again, and I'm going to try for a whaling strategy.

Concordia is fantastic, it takes a little long and definitely is best with three or more players though. There's a smaller game board in the expansion Britannia and Germania which can be used for duels

Update about the shithead who stole games from my friend who died last week:

Confirmed that he's a shithead. Says he took some games, will maybe return some of them if we can provide a list of what we want back. I'm going to attempt not lay into him after the funeral on Saturday.

Even after we explained that the family was having to front the money to cover the mortgage and funeral and stuff, and that by selling his collection we were hoping to get some fast cash to them while they wait for his assets to unfreeze, this assburglar is still being lovely.

I know that grief makes people do stupid things, but I'm having a hard time buying that as an excuse at this point.

Just complete and utter disbelief. Sorry dude, looks like your (former) friend's an irredeemable fucker.

"Imagine The Martian with Matt Damon, but instead of growing potatoes, he was a potato." The app stuff makes me irrationally angry.

All I can think after viewing that video is that 1 in 8 males are color blind and they picked red/green plastic cubes to represent the game state

It depends on whether you also count acquired color blindness

Anyway, most games I've played actually have a way around it like specific markings and the like. I don't count things you can ask other players as accessibility problems, so it's only annoying when it involves cards/items which are meant to be kept secret.

So I'm not saying game designers shouldn't be aware of this or work to make their games inclusive, but red lights and green lights are pretty universal symbols that mean something has gone wrong or is functioning properly, far beyond board games, and the colors were specifically used in that manner by First Martians. You can say that isn't a sufficient reason, but it isn't a bonkers thing to do for thematic reasons. The game seems pretty awful anyway, which is disappointing because I was looking for an excuse to get it.

Yeah I didn't want to start a discussion about red and green cubes but my gaming group fixes this in a few games by just switching opaque/clear cubes around. Sounds like something a developer could do as well but it's a really tiny thing tbh. Thing is, everyone's color vision sucks when it's late in the evening and your lamps aren't that fantastic anymore, so it's more of a design issue.
