I know it's still going to be a blast when I see them in Portland but man.

Got lucky at the Mayan, three of us held up signs for Hyper Music and he decided to play it spur of the moment. Toss in Assassin+AP+Bliss+NB with piano+Stockholm (it's a rarity now it seems lol) and I walked out pretty happy. Third best Muse gig I've seen, and it happened in 2015.

I really hope that they're playing it safe for the first show of the tour. Can't blame them if that's why considering how much went into this.

There's a bit of anger in the Muse fan communities because Matt didn't play guitar on Uprising or Dead Inside last night, he only sang.

Friend just messaged me about Mexico, Matt started playing Uprising about half way through. Trust her over some periscope streams and YouTube videos from odd angles since she was there on the barrier. Still, the fact that Madness gets guitar but Dead Inside doesn't is a loving crime.

I don't know, I look at that setlist and realize I would only really want to see five songs out of 21. At some point Muse just developed into a direction that's not to my liking.

They should either make Morgan a full fourth band member, and give him equal prominence on stage, in media, etc, or Matt should loving play the instruments he used to and they can use a laptop for the beep boop parts.

Morgan now does a lot of the piano Matt used to, as well as taking over more and more of the guitar duties.

Edit: This is like a few years ago when Rivers Cuomo decided he wanted to be the "front man" of Weezer instead of the lead guitarist, so he stopped playing instruments and the drummer became lead guitar while Rivers just strutted on stage holding a microphone.

On the newest album they actually wrote a song about what a stupid decision it was, and how they were going back to how things used to be.

He pulled a guitar out halfway through Uprising and Dead Inside, looks like he jumps in from the solo forward (so he can outro riff as well). The fan community always, always loses their poo poo at the first show of a new tour but by the end of it after everyone has gone to a show the tone will change.

Not defending Muse for the short sets or putting Morgan in a hole. The drones they hyped up are massively underwhelming too. I'm really not a fan of the setlist at all, SS going the way of New Born is a crime especially with UD and all the backing tracks filling up time.

I agree. There is no excuse to play Drones once, let alone twice. Same goes for Isolated System. There is too much filler.

I'm just trying not to think about it at this point because it's shaping up to be an enormous waste of money. Ugh. I wouldn't have bought tickets if they hadn't been playing SS and CE at virtually every show for the past few months.

Second night was more of the same, except they played Bliss, Eurasia and Resistance, and left out Plug In Baby, Hysteria and Apocalypse Please.

That gives you an idea of what the song rotations will be like.

I love Bliss, but missing out on Hysteria and Apocalypse Please would be a nightmare.

I'm cool with AP/United States being rotated, but I'd be pissed if I got Plug In Baby over Bliss.

I hope that eventually The Globalist will be rotated with Citizen Erased (plus one rarity like uh The Groove or Agitated or The Small Print since TG is 10 minutes and CE is 7)

I would rather they revolve between:
- Plug In Baby/TIRO
- Madness/Undisclosed Desires
- Isolated System/Unsustainable
- Resistance/Starlight
- Revolt/Defector
- New Born/SS (for old times' sake)

Then throw in a b-side revolution every so often.

Oh, and revolve Globalist+Drones with Aftermath+Citizen for that 13 minute slot (and get rid of Drones at the start of the show, ffs!)

Yeah, I don't like that either. If you need a permanent slot on stage for the music you write and perform and always have the same person doing that job (s)he should be a bigger part of the band. Same thing with Mike Vennart & Biffy Clyro. At least he now isn't pushed aside as he was at the beginning, but it's still strange how this kind of thing is treated. If you don't (have the ability to) take part in the creative process it's fine that you don't get the same treatment as anyone else. But to be put in the dark like Morgan (even I didn't now his name and I consider myself a big Muse fan. Only knew that it's the same person on stage) is really not cool.

I'm really surprised SLC doesnt have a tour date yet since they tend to sell out the venue every time they come through town.

But after seeing these initial setlists, I would be super disappointed at a show with that list. Drones twice and all the rest, play a good real set with 25+ songs. I saw The Cure and Muse at ACL a few years ago, Muse is always awesome but The Cure was stunning. I can't believe how great of a show they played for their age, I plan on catching them again on this next tour because it was so fun.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABY JESUS!!!
I hope this isn't true. The 2nd Law tour didn't have any Atlanta dates for months and months, then a few weeks prior to the NCAA Final Four basketball tournament Muse were announced as the headliners for the free March Madness concert. During the concert, Matt said "See you in September." Then no word on anything until August when they announced a formal date for the arena show.

Anyway, still hoping they'll come to Denver. We passed up the opportunity to go to Phoenix for the show this Saturday.

Good news, Vegas/San Diego confirmed for best shows of the tour
and I won't have to drive from Phoenix to Vegas overnight lol

Due to unforeseen logistical and technical challenges with setting up this huge show, moving arena scoreboards in order to play in the round and the difficulty encountered moving the production between back to back shows with long journeys in between, unfortunately we are forced to reschedule the following shows:

December 6, 2015 show in Las Vegas at The Mandalay Bay Events Center has now been rescheduled to January 9, 2016

Tickets for the December 6th show will be valid for January 9th. Fans who wish to receive a refund will need to go through their original point of purchase.

December 16, 2015 show in San Diego at Valley View Casino Center has now been rescheduled to January 7, 2016

Tickets for Dec. 16th show will be honored on new date Jan. 7th. Refunds available at point of purchase.

We sincerely and deeply apologize for any and all inconveniences that our postponement may have caused. While we are keenly aware of the problems of a postponement we are equally certain that when you see the Drones Tour you will agree that it was worth waiting for. We cannot wait to play for you.

In getting ready for tonight's concert I have been listening to all the Muse stuff newest to oldest and I gotta say that Save Me is probably the best song on 2nd Law and probably one of their best song in general.

Dec 28, 2006

To me that's crazy, since the only songs I enjoy from the 2nd law are Panic Station and Survival. Panic Station dares to be a really dumb funk rock pastiche and I dunno it works for me, and survival has some of my favorite guitar playing from matt. It's not his best, but it's some of the most fun.

2nd Law was so disappointing in general though, I was surprised they bounced back at all with Drones. I was pretty ready to write them off and move on. Drones isn't a perfect album by any stretch and is still worse than any 'classic' muse, but i'm glad they can still make good music even if it seems like they sabotage themselves quite a bit.

I went to the show last night. It was my third time seeing Muse and I got to say, despite it being an excellent spectacle with amazing visuals and some tight work with the music and sound, it was probably not my favourite time seeing Muse, and most of that comes down to the set list. For one thing, they played 9 out of the 12 songs from Drones, including playing Drones twice. I understand a band wants to promote their new stuff but when 4 out of the first five songs are from the new album, and of the songs that they played is 10 minutes long, and, well to put it kindly the new songs kind of suck, then it just becomes a bit meh. I know a lot of people probably like Muse for the newer stuff, and songs like Resistance and Madness got huge applauses from the crowd, but they only played one song from Origin of Symmetry (Bliss) and one song from Absolution (Our Time is Running Out) and the whole thing just comes across wildly uneven.
I understand that they can't play all the older stuff, but they could have easily cut away 3 or so songs from Drones to make way for Hysteria, Stockholm Syndrome, New Born, Plug in Babe, Apocalypse Please or anything else like that. Again, I know the whole stage show pretty much revolves around the new stuff, but the new stuff is pretty meh.

Anyway, here are some pics I took of the night.
