Soulex posted:I thought there was a small window of time where you wait for your orders and all that. You need orders to clear CIF right? Your COC can provide an memo stating that you are pending med board and need to turn in your gear. No orders are needed to do a turn in to CIF, only memo from command. We did a bunch of them right before I got out for people that were waiting on orders.

SD stories continue. SDO comes in to grab me and we go on the barracks check. Only guy to ever grab the NCO for this, but he wanted to do it. So we start walking the foot print when a fire truck and ambulance come through sirens blaring. Of course I had just said something to the effect of, "at least nothing is on fire tonight". Lo and behold, a barracks has a fire. The LT looks at me, I look at the building number. Different BDE. Victory. He even asked if we needed to call anyone. Silly LT.

One of my old units had 99 bayonets in the arms room. No clue why. But MTOE said we needed them. What a support unit would do with them is beyond me...

spacetoaster posted:It's average money. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personal_income_in_the_United_States Got me on that link. I go by two factors: Doing better than "just getting by" and being happy. If I have to worry about filling my gas tank, I'm not happy. If I hate my job I'm not happy. I want that balance. Also 2.5 kids, 1.4 dogs, .6 cats and 2.6 fish with a home that doesn't break me financially.

It seems to me that most of the people who get out (myself included) want better for themselves. Both emotionally and financially. In my experience the guy who says that it is really rough on the "outside" isn't willing to do things like working hard and actually applying themselves. Also, we got paid like poo poo while in.

Like I will get up, turn my alarm off, and get back in bed. My alarm is across the room even. I won't remember that either. Next stupid suggestion. Are you actually doing anything during the day? Other than getting baked and loving the sweet sweet freedom? Try doing some projects. Anything, look for a job, work on the resume, build a hut, learn to make fire from random objects.

We had some great guys from 1st Cav relieve us my last deployment. You would think that they would like to have basic comms up and operational before we left. That way they could do things like call a MEDVAC and what not. They were still trying to get radios to work when we got back to the states...

That would be 2CR. The land of the lost.
