I just want a big expansion pack that really expands on the simulation. These small "industry", "college", "parks" DLC are ok I guess but they just feel tacked on and like they aren't really changing the game itself, I've only bought Mass Transit cause it was the only one that seemed to be expanding the underlying sim. Also $10 for a snow map where the weather never changes? That's pretty lame.

About 6 months ago I was cleaning out my desktop case when I noticed I had both 8 GB RAM sticks in different coloured DIMM slots from when I first put it together. Moved one of them over to the other DIMM slot and I instantly got me some dual channel RAM boost!

I haven't played CS in awhile but I am very ready to jump back in with CS2 tomorrow. Hopefully performance isn't too bad, sounds like it's somewhat hardware specific.

|
# ¿ Oct 23, 2023 17:57 |
In this case it also seems pretty dependent on hardware combinations so a small studio might not catch all the variations that perform particularly poorly.

Optimization can mean a lot of different things but generally you want to get your infrastructure sound and yeah maybe you can push off handling all the corner cases towards the end of development.

Sashimi posted:I can see this going a lot like Cyberpunk 2077. Disastrous launch but given time the situation will substantially improve, especially since CO seems to listen to its audience but just doesn't have the staff to keep up with everything. So a good game at launch (on PC) whose technical issues were over blown by gamers? Why I never... Not saying this games launch couldn't have been done better (I haven't launched it yet to see how it runs on my machine) but I tend to take peoples performance complaints with a grain of salt because for some people anything sub 60 FPS is a personal insult and for me I am perfectly fine with a game like this running at 30 FPS.

bagmonkey posted:honestly if Paradox had allowed CO to do a 2 week "pre-order sneak peek" that would've been more than enough to get feedback and implement some fixes. Like the patch today definitely improved my performance, they would've been able to have that at launch! Yeah this seems like the best way to approach it. Let people who absolutely want in as early as possible to play "pre-release" and use that to figure out where the biggest easy gains can be made. The way Steam handles pre-orders people will be able to refund anytime during that window as well.

Bedurndurn posted:Mods don't just appear out of the aether. You need the right people to be passionate enough about a game to put in the effort. It's quite possible for a sequel to not recapture the original game's audience or not inspire the same passion in the people who develop mods. KSP2 is a great example of that. I don't think CS2's launch is nearly as bad as KSP2s was though, so its overall prospects are good. CS2 has already surpassed CS1 all time peak players on Steam and it's currently averaging higher than CS1 ever really did. That's not counting some people currently playing CS1 possibly waiting to buy it or for further patches.

Games fun but man is the building auto-flattening kind of annoying. I made a nice winding coastal road with low density homes along the beach and now everyones backyard has created a walled cliff straight down to the sea as it leveled off the terrain.

I think you're maybe reading a bit too much into the WotW, it reads fine to me. It's an unenviable position to be writing weekly updates about a game series a lot of people are not happy with. I don't think they should be groveling at our feet and cutting to the chase is better than a bunch of unnecessary fluff telling us how sorry they are.
