NikkolasKing posted:I liked the Briefings in MGS1. Sure it's a lot of exposition but it's really cool exposition compared to say, MGS4's Briefings. I just remember being really blown away by the cinematic style of them. Didn't he also dye it?

Maybe all of Big Boss's dominant genes were the superior ones? I mean, they were the genes that got expressed, and he was ~the ultimate soldier~.

You're both monsters for not putting the number at the START of the filenames so they stay in order.

Choco1980 posted:In fact, even without chaff if you're far enough back the laser can't get you. You can totally cheese the second part of the battle, trivializing it. Yeah, one of the defining features of the Big Bad Guy Race is that they're asymmetrical. Try and make them yourself, you can't, sticking something to one side of a creature creates a duplicate on the other side.

Choco1980 posted:I don't think I ever made the connection that Ocelot killed Sigint on purpose to cover his tracks. The MGS games are like the Kingdom Hearts games--they reveal just enough to make you think you're getting to the bottom of things, then pull the rug out from under you to make no sense. Doesn't it cycle through a bunch of people doing it? It does in 3.

What Otacon's finding hilarious about the MOOCH girl is probably that the guy on the poster next to her is reaching into her poster.

Hitting an open locker door with a girl poster on it will make a boob-honking sound instead of the usual thud, and I think it also brings a bunch of alerted soldiers in to defend their waifu's honour.

NikkolasKing posted:The actual reason he did it was because everyone bitched endlessly about MGS2 back in the day. The chief complaints were: Ocelot was possessed in this one then thought "that gives me a brilliant idea for a trick!" and tricked everyone into thinking it was still happening.

Just looked up what Calorie Mate is in Japanese and it's カロリーメイト, Karorīmeito. So it's mate as in friend, not mah-tay.

It's a pure-gameplay abstraction to allow the player to be the badass soldier that Big Boss is supposed to be cause it would be kind of incongruous if after decades in the field he can't point a gun at some random poo poo and shoot them before they raise the alert. Sorry.

SSNeoman posted:*As a guy whose original language was Russian, I find this line very interesting. English is, for all intents and purposes, my native tongue. I can read, write and talk much more easily and naturally in English since I learned it at a young age. I also think in English, not in Russian. Other people who learned English later in their life, still think in their native tongue, so that's kind of an interesting bit of depth to add to a guy. One of my teachers back in high school once told us about the time he spent a few years in Russia, and after even such a short time he found himself thinking in Russian. Maybe it just depends on how much you get to use the one over the other?

Danaru posted:As far as I can tell, that doesn't effect it too much. I'm not sure exactly when the trigger is, but when the interrogator and interpreter get to a certain point (after interrogating the lady and the dude together, and before they reach the house they interrogate the viscount at), the guard next to the viscount will give him a kick and escort him veeeeeery slooooowly to the interrogation spot. If the Viscount just flops over, back away to like 200m then close again to 50 and it'll continue. Weird bug but not unrecoverable.
