I liked the Briefings in MGS1. Sure it's a lot of exposition but it's really cool exposition compared to say, MGS4's Briefings. I just remember being really blown away by the cinematic style of them.

They also make Snake look like he has blond hair, which was part of a huge debate in the MGS fandom about what color Snake's hair is. After all, why cut his hair if it's naturally brown and Liquid's is blond? He cut his hair so as not to be mistaken for Liquid but if they have two entirely different hair colors, this shouldn't be a problem.

You know, I remember I must have played MGS1 for the first time when I was in high school because I recall learning about genes and hearing that blond hair was a recessive trait and Iteeange me was all sorts of confused because that didn't match up at all with what this video game told me.

Didn't he also dye it?

Maybe all of Big Boss's dominant genes were the superior ones? I mean, they were the genes that got expressed, and he was ~the ultimate soldier~.

You're both monsters for not putting the number at the START of the filenames so they stay in order.

In fact, even without chaff if you're far enough back the laser can't get you. You can totally cheese the second part of the battle, trivializing it.

Also, while we're complaining about Liquid's speech, apparently by the game's own internal timeline, the genome soldiers are less than a decade old.

Also, Liquid's understanding of asymmetry theory is LITERALLY the opposite of how things actually are in nature. Nature adores symmetry, both reflective (like in most bi or quadrapedal animals, and even in leaves) and radial (like, starfish and stuff) forms. If you play spore, it is very difficult to create an asymmetrical creature, the engine abhors it.

Yeah, one of the defining features of the Big Bad Guy Race is that they're asymmetrical. Try and make them yourself, you can't, sticking something to one side of a creature creates a duplicate on the other side.

I don't think I ever made the connection that Ocelot killed Sigint on purpose to cover his tracks. The MGS games are like the Kingdom Hearts games--they reveal just enough to make you think you're getting to the bottom of things, then pull the rug out from under you to make no sense.

Also I like the tiny detail that when the Colonel is being detained, he doesn't voice the game over audio. Mei Ling does instead.

Doesn't it cycle through a bunch of people doing it? It does in 3.

What Otacon's finding hilarious about the MOOCH girl is probably that the guy on the poster next to her is reaching into her poster.

Hitting an open locker door with a girl poster on it will make a boob-honking sound instead of the usual thud, and I think it also brings a bunch of alerted soldiers in to defend their waifu's honour.

The actual reason he did it was because everyone bitched endlessly about MGS2 back in the day. The chief complaints were:
Raiden
Ocelot's ghost hand
Raiden
The story being too good for dumb babies
Raiden

So Kojima tried to pander to all these haters, which resulted in MGS4. Because hypnotism and making Raiden a cyborg ninja fixed everything, right? It's not like the third game establishes Ocelot had latent psychic/spirit medium powers that could explain how he was possessed, nope. Only nanomachines can explain the ghost arm.

Although, according to a few sources here and there, he was actually possessed during MGS2. Then Ocelot said "gently caress that" and that is why he isn't actually using Liquid's arm in 4. Pretty sure that's only stated in that Metal Gear Database thing but take what you can get.

As for an in-universe reason, he wanted to fool The Patriots. That's it.

Ocelot was possessed in this one then thought "that gives me a brilliant idea for a trick!" and tricked everyone into thinking it was still happening.

It's a pure-gameplay abstraction to allow the player to be the badass soldier that Big Boss is supposed to be cause it would be kind of incongruous if after decades in the field he can't point a gun at some random poo poo and shoot them before they raise the alert.

Sorry.

*As a guy whose original language was Russian, I find this line very interesting. English is, for all intents and purposes, my native tongue. I can read, write and talk much more easily and naturally in English since I learned it at a young age. I also think in English, not in Russian. Other people who learned English later in their life, still think in their native tongue, so that's kind of an interesting bit of depth to add to a guy.

One of my teachers back in high school once told us about the time he spent a few years in Russia, and after even such a short time he found himself thinking in Russian. Maybe it just depends on how much you get to use the one over the other?

As far as I can tell, that doesn't effect it too much. I'm not sure exactly when the trigger is, but when the interrogator and interpreter get to a certain point (after interrogating the lady and the dude together, and before they reach the house they interrogate the viscount at), the guard next to the viscount will give him a kick and escort him veeeeeery slooooowly to the interrogation spot.

Other fun ways this mission likes to break: Sometimes the guy escorting the viscount will bring him to the place, and then the viscount just flops over in the doorway and the interogation crew stands there forever waiting for the viscount to reach them. Another time, the guard just never escort the viscount ever. I stood nearby vaping for three days without that guy even going to take a piss. I'm honestly still not 100% sure how I hosed up this mission, it looks like the duo hung out in the nearby house with the intel, never actually bothered to interrogate anyone, then the guards executed the prisoners because whatever.

I hate Lingua Franca

If the Viscount just flops over, back away to like 200m then close again to 50 and it'll continue. Weird bug but not unrecoverable.
