I've always played to max Luck because of those sweet critical multipliers, usually maxing Endurance as well, Intelligence and Charisma were easy to boost with drugs for the few times they mattered.

I just took over an outpost, but I damaged the well with grenade shrapnel. The game tells me to repair it so it will work, and of course since it's Fallout 4 there's no explanation how to accomplish this. I highlighted the pump and didn't see a repair function. I then tried "store item in workbench" and now I can't find it in the bench menu and still don't know how to repair stuff. Help me, goonsires.

He had a fat man but launched it into the wall of the cliff I was on, otherwise it would have been a very bad day.

I had an absurd glitch yesterday. I was in the 360 tower because I needed the Strength Bobblehead so I could put points into Big Guns. After I grabbed it I took the elevator down, usually the NPC will respawn into the elevator but not this time. In the lobby, Piper came crashing down from the eighth floor, which isn't that uncommon. What was uncommon was she dragged a protectron down with her. He exploded and set off another Protectron who was patrolling the lobby. I was laughing pretty hard, then 3 seconds later that other Protectron went nuclear, blowing off all my limbs. I wasn't even mad about it. I just cannot understand how incompetent the pathing is in this game. Sin was the laughingstock of the industry in the 90s because the NPCs couldn't walk around without falling off ledges, now it's 20 years later and Bethesda's AAA title of the year can't do any better.

The flamer is weak as hell in this game. I have a maxed out one and maxed big guns and all it's good for is trash mobs of low-level mirelurks or ferals. Maybe a good mod could salvage it though, like bleeding or explosive, although that would be playing on the razor's edge with the short range. So far the only legendary item I've really benefited from is my bugslayer combat shotgun, it got me through a lot of hairy mirelurk encounters early on. At this point I can kill a queen with 5 shots to the legs with it.

Just creeping around Boston, was about to club a Super Mutant but heard his friends at the last second and backed off because I'm level 16. They front guy walked into a frag mine so I went up to watch. They kept walking, one set off a mine next to a car, which nuked the whole gang. Kicker was, there was a legendary mutant in the group and he dropped an explosive minigun. Fun should ensue.

It doesn't seem like there are many choices for high-level melee weapons in this game. I put the sacrificial blade mod from the unique machete onto one that has 40% lower AP costs and it hits as hard as an upgraded super sledge, gives 3x as many hits in VATS, staggers like the super sledge, procs bleed and hits at medium speed. Looking at the wiki it seems like the only thing better would be a machete with added damage to swap the sacrificial blade onto. I'd love a melee weapon that ignores armor but I don't think there are any, the only thing I've seen is the 4th level armor upgrade for arms that helps ignore some armor. Is there anything I'm missing for better performance than an upgraded machete, or something for piercing armor?

I'm going through the list here and the ones I can see that are 'comical evil' are mostly 3rd party stuff (Penny Arcade vaults more than anything). Were there any specifically you had in mind? Almost every vault in the 3d era is pretty evil. Since Bethesda took over, almost every vault has a cruel experimental manipulation, vault 101 was tame by comparison to all the others. My guess is Vault-Tec was socially engineering different societies partially because they figured different living conditions could create different societies, some of which would fare better than others in the post-apocalyptic wasteland. 101 is as close to a control group as you'll find in the 3d games, in the original the vault issues were mostly due to Vault-Tec incompetence and Fallout 2 was sometimes zany for the sake of zaniness.

I don't even know who to quote since so many of you corrected me so quickly. Thanks for the info, I played 1 and 2 a couple of years ago and didn't remember the vault details. I considered upping the difficulty but seeing how far I am already I've decided to leave it and choose a higher one on my next playthrough. This is what I did, and frankly the difficulty isn't much of a jump to hard, I'm bumping up to very hard for the challenge and more Legendaries. Any increased difficulties can be addressed by stacking drug effects. The only danger early on in the higher difficulties is getting melted by molotovs or running into a dude with a missile launcher. If you ever find yourself overwhelmed, you can run away from just about any enemy pretty easily (except for those lobster mirelurks, they'll chase you to the ends of the earth). Also, abusing fiber reinforcement on clothing that fits under armor (army fatigues or a baseball uniform), plus a reinforced fedora, plus decent armor can get you to an armor rating in the high 200s really easily, with a matching energy resistance. The variety of melee weapons is even more constricting than the guns in this game. There doesn't seem to be much difference between the weapons beyond the skin, they hit in one of 3 speeds and the impact is basically the same regardless of weapon type. There aren't that many weapon types, either. With guns at least there are good reasons to carry a bunch of different types, but for melee you just always use the best weapon you've found unless you gimp yourself for variety. There isn't even the option for a trade-off like armor piercing in exchange for lower damage. My melee run is disappointing, the only thing that's really fun is drugging up and destroying super-tough enemies with my 12x sneak attack modifier and psycho-derivatives.

CapnAndy posted:So 4 hours in and I'm just overwhelmed right now. Early questions: In addition to what Nordick told you, here's how to properly arm a settler: -trade with them and put the gun in their inventory, but don't close the trade window. Instead, you equip the item on them on their side of the trade window. On PS4 this means hitting y while the 10mm is selected. You should then see a dot next to the item name, which confirms it has been equipped. -put 1 round of 10mm in the settler's inventory. Settlers will have unlimited shots as long as they have 1 bullet their inventory, just like in Skyrim when NPCs needed 1 arrow. It doesn't make sense but whatever. You can arm them with any gun this way, even spare miniguns and missile launchers and the like. -you can give them armor the same way, it has to be equipped the same way, and they will immediately start wearing it and never take it off. -you can also equip them with grenades, give them 1 and equip it and they'll use it. A cryo grenade is a particularly good choice because you don't want your settlers blowing you or each other to smithereens -you must, I repeat you must, equip them with a funny hat or else you're not playing the game right, pompadour wigs are my personal favorite hope this helps Filthy Hans fucked around with this message at 11:22 on Nov 29, 2015 |
