Merc reinforcements do not use manpower. They're magicked into existence.

Go to the religion tab after pressing f1 or right clicking on a country or whatever. Then if you can freely change, the button in the top left will be orangey/gold. If not, you have to be converted by rebels.

Nothing more to it. I rarely bother, the bonuses aren't earth shatteringly good. Certainly can't justify investing more than once.

Iirc no, no stab hits for heirs dying in battle/sieges whatsoever. Could be wrong though. Obviously if they succeed (e: accede? Can't remember, tired, phone posting, whatever) to the throne then they will be at risk for stab hits.

You're stuck as a duchy unless you're an elector, in which case you can be a kingdom. Nobody can be an emperor. Austria is, in fact, stuck at duchy (archduchy, in fact)

Correct, anything on another continent that is within a certain range of your capital does not count as distant overseas. However, provinces outside of that range -- even ones that connect to other provinces inside it -- will count as distant overseas, so there's a limit as to how far they can go before they hit the penalties.

The wiki has that range as 150 units, which isn't enormous

It's not that actually, it's that you need to have one of their cores which is of their primary culture. Aquileia is Venetian, while Gorz is Austrian. (This is also why you can never resurrect the Livonian Order if they die, as they're Prussians without any Prussian land.)

The distant overseas autonomy cap makes the land garbage if you hold it yourself; CNs will be able to do enough with it to field a modest army and/or navy to help you out, while giving you a small amount of income in tariffs and a decent amount of trade power. Most appealing of all, you get a free merchant once your CN reaches 10 provinces. Just form them.

E: note to self do not post when half asleep, uh yeah hold it yourself if you can get 0% autonomy. Make sure not to gently caress up your ordering of colonisation or anything and accidentally form one

Going to double post but I just had one of my Catholic HRE vassals spawn a center of reformation seemingly without actually converting to Protestant. Is there an event that does that, or is that some kind of bug? It's been like two months since the reformation popped and so far only Sweden and England are Protestant nations. My vassal is still Catholic but his province has been flipped to Protestant and there's a center of reformation on it. I thought only the first three converted nations got those? Is there a chance that he somehow converted to Protestant and then immediately converted back? I have the event popups active for the reformation and got messages about Sweden and England but nothing mentioning my vassal. Here's a religious map of Europe at the time:

As you can see it's still super early on and no other nations besides Sweden and England are Protestant. The CoR is in the bigger blob right in the middle of the HRE there. On top of that, the lone Protestant province in the top of the HRE there didn't actually get converted by the center, and doesn't have a Religious Zeal modifier on it so the owner is just casually flipping it back to Catholic. Did something weird happen here or is it just the game helping Protestantism along?

The event which fires the reformation occurs randomly and does not forcibly convert you. Independent countries will (almost always) convert, but vassals won't.

No, it has to be a country whose primary culture is Dutch:

code:
possible = {
		NOT = { num_of_custom_nations = 1 }
		normal_or_historical_nations = yes
		normal_province_values = yes
		ironman = yes
		start_date = 1444.11.11
		primary_culture = dutch
		NOT = { tag = NED }
	}
Not even sure culture shifting would count, because it may well check on the start date.

Any province you occupy has your revolt risk, so their rebels aren't that likely to fire. Just get them up to 20 war exhaustion (you can see it on the war overview screen) and then peace out for whatever. Then they'll have to deal with all those provinces returning to them, with all the added WE unrest, on top of having no army. I mean, consider this: I have 1587 development right now and I'm only making 210 gold/month, 134 from production/tax. I'd have to conquer 6000 development at 75% autonomy to get another 134. Trade makes up most of it, but still...

See, having the Tribes own provinces doesn't technically hold any penalty. It just sets an autonomy floor of 50. But since you're a Horde that's constantly at war, what you want to do is give them every newly conquered province, whose autonomy will all be over 50% anyway. Just make sure they don't get more than 35% of development to keep Influence down. Periodically look back through your country, find any province that's tribe controlled, and take it away if actual autonomy is getting close to 50. The Tribes don't actually care if you take provinces away really, only that they control 33% of total development.

So they need to be between 33-35% of development for maximum efficiency? drat that sounds tedious. I guess it gets easier (yet simultaneously more time consuming) as you get huge, though
