Default settings feel really nice. Spend a few more hours getting acclimated to the game. Rally is a far different beast than road racing. You've gotta be thinking a few corners ahead of the car. There's far more throttle/brake modulation needed during a rally. Moments of flat out throttle are rare.

Yea a lot of rally is about 'catching' the car on corner exits. Tough to do, but man does it make me feel like a cool guy catching a lateral air and getting on the gas.

I double dipped on it, and have done so with PCARS, and will for Assetto Corsa. Dirt Rally in the PC or the console is no significant change. Game runs extraordinarily well on the ps4 and looks great too.

I use an hdmi cable to connect my PC to a had tv. There's some annoying poo poo that keeps it from being a perfect solution. Windows resizing upon game exit, having to constantly switch sound outputs, navigating Windows, etc

Do other cars become unlocked for hill climb and rally cross or am I stuck playing with what's available from the get go?

I've put in a lot more hours in Dirt Rally this weekend. It's really quite a lovely sim. I wish Codemasters would drop more tracks, though.

I picked up Sebastian Loeb Rally Evo on the cheap for the ps4. Tons more content than Dirt Rally. Dirt Rally looks, plays, and more importantly sounds better.

Well I hope that sequel is a super quick turn around. Codemasters has done a helluva job on everything. All they need to do is iterate on Dirt Rally 1

Ford Escort MkII and the Opel Kadett are just tons of fun. Rally is cool because cars don't need to be pushing incredible power to be a good time.

I rolled an Impreza seven times. It was amazing and hilarious.

Escort MKII would've also been a fine choice.

Traction control and stability control. They both fundamentally change the way the car behaves in a way that seriously inhibits your ability to play. ABS is user preference. I keep it on a 1 or 2.

Simulation handling in Dirt 4 feels less like wrestling an alligator. And as expected, dudes on Reddit are now disappointed that the game isn't as hardcore as Dirt Rally despite Codemasters improving upon the weird behavior in the game. Lots of "too much grip". Purpose-built cars meant for this kind of driving couldn't possibly be that capable. Surely, Codemasters is up to something. For a sincere complaint, the lack of Greece is disheartening. It's a dumb argument and one I can't ever take seriously considering that the typical person has almost zero experience actually rallying or racing.

Weird how that works? Anyway, Dirt 4 is great. Nice looking game and the career mode is fun.

The Subaru WRX STi NR4 is absolutely a pleasure to play with. Bumping up a torque bias to the front makes the car almost a cheat code.

Dirt 4 is good. The generated stages are a little samey a few hours in, though.

Laserface posted:is there any demo for this game? The cars in Dirt 4 have a better-realized sense of weight, which gives a nicer feel for what the car is doing. There's also some suspension stuff that seems improved. After a few hours of playing 4 I went back to Dirt Rally and yea Rally plays looser. I won't say one is definitively better than the other but I prefer Dirt 4 in terms of how the cars handle. It's basically down to preference really.

Cars are squirrelly under braking. Nothing that bumping some forward bias doesn't fix. Managing weight transfer is a very big deal, especially coming up on crests. That's my favorite revision to the game: the sense of weight to the cars.

Fingers McGee posted:Is it unlocked on steam already? Does the GMG version unlock through steam too? Looking at the Steam reviews and seeing lots of graphics complaints, how is it comparing to rally? The graphics are fine. It's the Dirt Rally engine. Maybe people are mixing up the lack of handcrafted tracks to the somewhat generic stage generator as a downgrade. I can see that.

I play with the WRX exclusively. I think it's a phenomenally easy car to drive. Behaves like a FWD vehicle with enough power to break the rear loose with throttle.

# ¿ Jun 9, 2017 21:25 |

Opel Kadett kicked my rear end. I can't get a handle on playing with it whereas in Dirt Rally it was no problem.

Adjust the lateral grip slider codemasters

# ¿ Jun 9, 2017 22:37 |

Pulling the handbrake immediately locks up the rear wheels, which is great for swinging the rear end of the car around during a hair pin or tight corner.

Ya brakes perform much differently in4. I'm bouncing between the two for the past few days. You can really jump on the brakes in DR with almost no penalty. One thing I do like that D4 does is quantify tuning with numbers. DR uses loose/strong, soft/firm. Not like that's any different; I like seeing the numbers.
