So, is there anyone in this thread who isn't saying, "Negligence must have occurred for this hospital to get bombed for an hour, and those negligent people should be put on trial"?

Otherwise, I think this thread is guilty of war crimes against strawmen.

A vast majority of the Republican Conference knows that an impeachment proceeding would be political suicide. Short of a Pride's Purge, it isn't happening.

Yeah, but they knew that in 1997 and it didn't stop them. And if anything, they've gotten more combative and more willing to die on stupid stupid right-wing causes since then.

I honestly think there's a decent chance the next Speaker allows a vote to impeach in exchange for Freedom Caucus support on other issues.

Brooks blames Rush but of course he should be blaming Nixon, Goldwater and Reagan.

For the current atmosphere? That's just stupid.

Say what you want about Nixon as a paranoid, diseased crook; and Reagan and Goldwater as racist, senior ideologues; but each of the three of them actually understood that politics is done by politicians making deals and compromises and coming together where they could. Nixon created the EPA and the Southern Strategy. Reagan bloated our military and helped reform the tax code and raise taxes. Goldwater voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and was instrumental in passing the Panama Canal Treaty.

Our current era of "the only compromise we accept is 100% of what we want" comes straight from the right-wing media machine of the '90's through today.

“The time for a woman to serve as our President has come – really, now is the time – and I think the idea of having a former First Lady as the leader of the free world is really quite a marvelous notion. I want Hillary to win. Even though I admire two of the current potential Republican nominees, I have no interest in seeing either of them lead this country.”

It won't mean anything, really, but it's nice to see even the Widow Reagan doesn't believe in the Republicans this time around.

If Hillary wins then you can look forward to 4 years of nothing being done because the Republicans will stop at nothing to destroy her. I'd say they'd move for impeachment the very first year.

Are you honestly suggesting that Republicans will say, "Man, we'd hate Hillary and never work with her, but this guy who is an actual self-declared socialist, him we like and will compromise with"?

Also, if Republicans impeach Hillary in her first two years, the Democrats win Congress back big-time in 2018, given the 1998 elections.

The fact of the matter is Gore probably won Florida no matter what but we'll never find out for sure.

FactCheck rates this statement as "partially untrue."

FactCheck.org posted:

According to a massive months-long study commissioned by eight news organizations in 2001, George W. Bush probably still would have won even if the U.S. Supreme Court had allowed a limited statewide recount to go forward as ordered by Florida’s highest court.

Bush also probably would have won had the state conducted the limited recount of only four heavily Democratic counties that Al Gore asked for, the study found.

On the other hand, the study also found that Gore probably would have won, by a range of 42 to 171 votes out of 6 million cast, had there been a broad recount of all disputed ballots statewide. However, Gore never asked for such a recount. The Florida Supreme Court ordered only a recount of so-called "undervotes," about 62,000 ballots where voting machines didn’t detect any vote for a presidential candidate.

None of these findings are certain.

Pretty much. The Green Party campaign was essentially two-parted: Gore and Bush are exactly the same so who cares, and Gore is going to win anyway so we should register our support for progressivism and potentially get the Green Party access to the Presidential Election Campaign Fund had they received 5% of the vote. But it turned out that Bush was a disastrous corporatist warmonger, while Gore explored his lifelong love of environmentalism, the Green Party never even got close to that money, and Nader's fruitless ego campaign threatened liberal politics for another two election cycles while everyone begged him to not run - until thankfully he got too old to keep actively stabbing Democrats in the back.

Yeah, whatever forgiveness people were willing to extend to Nader after the 2000 elections pretty much evaporated in 2004 when he started talking up running again, because obviously the Democrats and Republicans were still the same.
