Jrod, ignoring for a second that you don't understand what property rights means if you're talking about the property rights of a man who owns nothing but a loaf of bread, property rights are actually the thing that keeps that poor man starving in nations like Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Canada, etc. Thanks to their rich oil supply, there are many wealthy Nigerians, Saudis, Canadians, etc who can afford to do all the charity they want, and yet poverty and starvation still exist. Could it be that... trickle down doesn't work??? :monocle:

Threadshitting aside, being serious for a second JRod, please consider the three questions I always pose to you when you're around:

1) Do you now, or have you ever, desired to sell yourself into slavery, but found yourself unable to because of the State?

2) Do you now, or have you ever, had a child enrolled in primary education that you wished you could pull out of schooling and get them started with a 100 hour a week job, but were dismayed when you realized the State forbade both child workers and forced an 80 hour work week onto workers?

3) If the minimum wage were abolished, would you start looking for one of the new $3/hr jobs? If not, are you holding out for $4/hr job, or will you just grab the first $2.50/hr job you can find?

We have tried feeding the poor through random acts of charity. It was a miserable failure, starvation persisted, and homelessness continues to this day. Human rights trump property rights, children not starving to death and not sleeping in the streets trumps your right to an X-Box. Therefore it is not only moral to take apples from people who have excess but an obligation.

I hope this clears up some confusion you've been having Jrod.

Also please don't argue here if Hitler was racist. I agree with everything Hitler said and I'm not racist so obviously Hitler was not either.

Breaking gimmick for a second: most of us act like assholes here because D&D's posting culture generally encourages that kind of posting, for better or worse. Here I'm an rear end in a top hat harping on you for whatever strikes me as your worst post of that day. Hop over to Batman's Shameful Secret on the other hand, and I'm explaining that I don't like posting about "thread opinion" on comic books because it alienates posters, and even if 99% of us dislike the new Uncanny Avengers, we shouldn't say stuff like "I'm glad we all agree Uncanny Avengers was terrible" because it spoils the thread for the few people that did like it. Not that BSS is totally devoid of assholery (people have very strong feelings on their Batmans), but you don't see the kind of constant mockery like in your threads because even if you had bizarre and terrible opinions there's just nothing fun about posting "Jrod likes Red Hood, what a weirdo," over and over again.

Its in the other thread rather early on.

That is when I stopped responding in good faith to jrod.

Yeah, I recall this happening before, I just enjoy giving him the benefit of the doubt here because when he does make his turn back to "all of you are aggressing against me", it will give me more material to be an rear end in a top hat to him about later.

When I said D&D posting culture encourages assholish posting, I wasn't lamenting that fact. Yeah it can lead to moments where someone who genuinely doesn't know much about politics says something dumb and gets a whole bunch of poo poo for it, but I cannot imagine discussing politics on a forum where everyone has to feign friendliness to someone arguing "I think UHC is theft, poors should just avoid getting cancer if treatment is so expensive, if getting treatment for cancer didn't cost an arm and a leg everyone would get cancer just for funsies". Sometimes, the only response to an abhorrent opinion is a combination of "gently caress you" and mockery.

In Jrod's OP he specifically said that Libertarianism was justified by scarcity, but if you have infinite energy then you've already violated the laws on conservation of mass and energy; you can make more energy without trading any mass, and thus have ended scarcity even if you didn't accept that we already don't have a scarcity problem but a distribution one.

People do not die of lack of money for medical treatment in nations with UHC. The slightest departure from this to an ever so slightly freeer market causes mass death due to lack of money for medical treatment. There is no appreciable downside to UHC. Thus, we do not have any reason to explore your fantasy world.

Making something "free" creates a huge spike in demand, overuse of medical resources and unintended consequences.

This is incorrect. You need to learn elementary logic. Just because something is free does not mean people will automatically demand it. Snow is free. I can run outside right now and grab it by the handful. Nobody would stop me or complain. And yet I do not. It has no value or use to me and even if it did, I have sufficient ice for anything I'd need snow for and so I have no interest in the snow outside.

Similarly, I do not have cancer so chemotherapy drugs are useless to me. I do not want to irradiate myself because there aren't really any upsides to it in my situation. Even if you offered to cut me open and cut away any cancer cells you happen to stumble across for free, I would decline because to my knowledge I do not have cancer and so even if it's free I don't really want to go through the hassles and dangers of surgery for no apparent reason.

I am a Canadian who currently lives in the USA. I have lived with UHC and I have lived with American healthcare. I have visited European countries and in particular Poland where my relatives live. The thing you are suggesting that there is a shortage of medical supplies due to people getting cancer treatment for funsies because it's free is not a common enough occurrence to base any policy decisions on.

Thus we will continue to tax you to fund our healthcare systems, whether it is the American system, or if the USA civilizes, UHC.

Jrod, I think it's not only justified, but an outright moral good to kill anyone involved in the slave trade. If someone firebombed the home of an auctioneer who organized auctions where slaves were bought and sold, I'd ask if the auctioneer lived alone, and if he did then I'd say that arsonist is a hero (and if not, I'd say they are a good person with some failings). If someone had kidnapped and hanged the entire crew of a slave galley during the days of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade, I'd say there were a hero. If someone had walked right up to George Washington and shot him in the face simply for the crime for owning a slave, I'd say that assassin is a national hero and we should have a holiday to celebrate that murder.

I do not feel there's any level of participation that is so low your murder should be condemned. Maybe if you were only incidentally involved such as a worker at a dock recording the arrival of a slave ship or a government official recording the number of slaves in a state for the census, but anyone who directly profits from slavery, from the carpenter who accepts a contract to repair a known slave ship to the architect that designs the slaves' living quarters, all of them have committed crimes worthy of extrajudicial murder.

Whether or not you agree with this world view, do you think it would be consistent for this world view to call for the death of IRS employees who collect and calculate taxes? Why or why not?

If the cost is free, or at least hidden for you and outsourced to another third party, you will have the incentive to have routine check-ups more frequently, have excess and unnecessary diagnostic tests like x-rays and MRIs, see chiropractors or message therapists, and many other health treatments.

This is correct, UHC encourages regular checkups and accepting elective diagnostic tests so that we can catch things like cancer earlier when it is easier and cheaper to treat. It is in my financial interest for more people to get check ups but private insurance sees it as a burden. Thus UHC is in my financial interest. This will not lead to any scenario you invented of someone getting MRIs weekly because they're so fun and free. People naturally don't like going to the doctors and they like paying for extra poo poo even less. But to keep healthcare affordable and effective, we need them to at least once a year come in and do all the optional things.

Thus, the most efficient solution is UHC.

Supercop and Hard Boiled I'm guessing no since Supercop got a US release and Hard Boiled got a DVD release by Dragon Dynasty which normally only releases films the Weinstein Company has the rights to, but Drunken Master I have no idea and could believe is actually public domain because it was never registered right.
