Well, hell, the US system doesn't even require that you have government ID (at least, not yet)...in that sense, it seems like it would be a bit of a step backwards.

How do you ID yourself if you don't have an ID? You know, for everything that requires an ID.

Looking at the election from the outside (non-US):
On the one hand the status quo already sucked for a lot of people so hopefully this shakes it up a bit. On the other hand it is the worst possible way to shake it and while it will be fun to watch the GOP squirm as they try to figure out where they went wrong, a lot of "innocent" people will probably suffer for it.

Not that I'm ignorant enough to believe this won't have effects across the pond.

A bit of Reddit drama and schadenfreude.
A week or so ago one of the admins/actual site engineers (called spez) used his power to silently alter some posts in https://reddit.com/r/the_donald so that instead of insulting the admins of the site, the posts insulted mods of the_donald. Once it came to light the_donald exploded. However it was revealed that the admins had gotten numerous reports of posters in the_donald had been harassing, doxxing and threatening site admins, other sub mods etc. and something had to be done.

So today spez posted this: https://www.reddit.com/r/announcements/comments/5frg1n/tifu_by_editing_some_comments_and_creating_an/
In short there are three things in this post:
1. Stickied posts in the_donald can't show up on /r/all (a place where posts that are very popular get put automatically, regardless of what subreddit they are posted on, with some exceptions) meaning that mods on the the_donald subreddit can't highlight stuff they want their users and their bots to upvote to /r/all.
2. They added a filter option to /r/all that lets users disable any subreddit they want from showing up on their own version of /r/all. This was previously only doable through third party browser extensions and the_donald got a LOT of posts up there, so it was a much asked for thing.
3. They are going through the_donald posters and punishing as necessary with bans, warnings and what have you.

The schadenfreude is the_donald that is exploding with anger at this perceived injustice. Nevermind the fact that they still don't understand that Reddit, as terrible as it is sometimes, is still a privately owned site and company and they can do whatever the gently caress they want with it.

It sounds like a pretty good card to throw out if you're pretty sure you're going to lose but want to either make it hilarious, or maybe hinge on a 1% chance it just casts a dozen direct damage spells to the opponent.

Pretty much. In a lot of ways it's an "all-in" but without even looking at your hand. But it also shows how bad Hearthstone is. If you remove almost all complexity from a card game you have to stick a load of RNG effects in there to make not every match a complete boring slog. Yogg-Saron just takes that to the extreme.

Bioware's character writing is like Rob Liefield's character drawing. You'd find characters with more depth in any given sonic fanfic.

I'd be far more willing to go try out a movie that got mixed or bad reviews because it was still gonna be a unique experience. Now... yeah if Rotten Tomatoes says its bad, I'm gonna need a drat good reason to pay $40 for two seats, a pop, and some popcorn.

Maybe something like this:

In what world can you get two tickets, soda and popcorn for two people for 40 bux?

Burger King puts out an ad that triggers voice searches in Android devices:

https://twitter.com/internetofshit/status/852244002753712128

What happens is that the phrase "ok google, what is a whopper burger?" will make the Android device do a google search for that phrase and read aloud the first response, which in this case is Wikipedia. Clever, but real loving annoying.

But then the Wikipedia article got changed once they caught on that it was used in advertising:

I recently replayed Kingdom Hearts 1 and, without having played any of the other games, the combat system would be 1 million percent better if the gameplay froze while you navigated menus and there was a dedicated "hit with weapon" button.

They trashed their wedding photographer over a $125 fee, so a jury told them to pay her $1 million

An autumn affair at the Petroleum Club in downtown Dallas, the union of a full-time beauty blogger and the love of her life, appeared to be a gorgeous thing — marred by one misfortune.

Three months after the ceremony, in front of a local television crew, Andrew and Neely Moldovan showed off a box of empty picture frames.

Their photographer was withholding the images, they told NBC affiliate KXAS in January 2015, and was demanding an extra $150 when they’d already paid thousands.

“It’s heartbreaking, because, you know, these are our memories,” Neely Moldovan said.

And many agreed.

......

And then the story changed.

Polito sued the Moldovans, claiming all they ever had to do to get their glossies was fill out a form, choose options for their wedding album and pay a small charge they had long known about.

It's just a giant bin but most of it is underground. Yeah you do need a special crane to collect it but since it holds so much trash you don't need to empty it every week. My old apartment complex had a similar one.

Stryk means a beating, and bög means gay (or rather, "fag"). So basically getting "fagbeaten". I remember it being used when I was in school in the late nineties. The use of "bög" doesn't really have any sexual connections in this case, it's just used to reinforce the word.

Needless to say, it's not a kosher term these days in most contexts.

We didn't have bögstryk, but we did have böghög, which is just when a bunch of guys all lay down on top of one another, possibly with the intent to crush the guy at the bottom.

Bögstryk and gay-bashing could be the same if you were doing a straight translation without context, but I don't think there is a specific term for beating up homosexuals in swedish, at least that I know. We just call it assault.
