So, I am just getting started with 30k, and my group is looking to get things going with a "painting escalation league"; everything must be painted to be played, and the points increase progressively over time. The first point level is going to be 500 points, which seems low enough that balance could be an issue, but it will at least make it easy to prep for. Anyone have any suggestions for a Blood Angels list to run at that point level? I currently have 2 BaC sets, + 5 additional BaC Terminators, along with 2 Sicaran Battle Tanks, a Deredeo Dreadnought, and a ton of Contemptor Dreadnoughts with almost all of the arms options represented. My opponents will likely be Iron Warriors (likely Thud Gun spam, if he can afford it), Word Bearers (potentially summoning), World Eaters, and either Sons of Horus or traitor Dark Angels. I've got years of 40k experience, but my 30k knowledge is a bit lacking, so any and all advice is welcome! Thanks.

So far, I have suffered far more from the ranged setup, than from the melee one. 2 AP2 Large Blasts, that wound based on a 2 dice Toughness test, with Ignores Cover and Pinning is absolutely brutal, and when you Drop Pod the bastard into the fight, the 18" range isn't much of an issue.

Potentially stupid question here; can I utilize 2 Rites of War in a single army? I'm thinking about running a BA Day of Revelation army, with an IF Allied Detachment using the Orbital Assault RoW; assuming that I have at least 2,000 points in the army, and a model with Master of the Legion in each Detachment, this is legal, right? A lot of the guys in my regular gaming group are balking at it, but the new army book seems to say that it's A-OK.

Yeah, I believe it's the only one of the Knights that is a Lord of War every time it's used, no matter which army it's used in. There do seem to be a fair number of errors in this book.

There's a big difference between staying positive, and choosing to be willfully blind to some pretty egregious problems with a product from a company you worship. Inferno has some horrendous, and frankly, unacceptable errors in it. Expecting more from a book with its cost is not unreasonable.

Death Guard lend themselves pretty well to blobs of infantry, as do Space Wolves (who just got rules in the most recent book), but most legions have totally workable builds centered around the contents of the plastic boxed sets. What kind of army do you generally like to play?

Gyro Zeppeli, World Eaters could also apply to you, especially if you like the idea of hurling giant blobs of infantry into other blobs of infantry in close combat. However, to be really nasty, you would probably want to get a Spartan Assault Tank eventually, to deliver those 20+ man squads into combat, and it is all resin. However, you could hold off on that for a while, and it really isn't too bad of a kit.

Mark VII armour is 100% acceptable, as long as it is genuine Forgeworld resin. Mk VII plastic (or recast resin) can also be used, but counts as 5+ "Plebeian Pattern Power Armour" instead. On a serious note, use what you like, but be prepared to defend that decision with something other than "I bought it because it was cheaper" or "I like how it looks" for a lot of people. Personally, I'd play someone using plastic 40k kits, but I can understand why people get frustrated at people who use them. Mark VII armour did exist during the Heresy, but it only existed during the very final parts of the Heresy, was only used by 3 Loyalist Legions (Blood Angels, Imperial Fists, and White Scars) and no Traitor Legions, and even among those Legions was extremely rare. While everyone likes more people playing their game, some people have a real problem with spending $400 on a genuine Forgeworld MK. III squad with Legion Upgrade sets, only to encounter someone who is playing an army comprised entirely of $100ish Games Workshop Mk VII squads with a Legion Paint job. There is nothing wrong with using plastics, but understand that it just rubs some people the wrong way, and be prepared to deal with that.

My local gaming clubs each have several players who "never leave home" without at least 3 of the things, and they ALWAYS kill more than their cost in points. Never a bad buy.

Do you goons think this Terminator scheme could work for Sons of Horus? I started messing around painting a Space Wolf Terminator, but ended up washing it darker and darker, until it ended up almost black. Since messing around with it, I have decided to start a Sons of Horus army, so I figured I'd use the scheme for some Cataphractii if people think it works. http://i.imgur.com/o49QKuo.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Xqey38A.jpg http://i.imgur.com/x0K9rxf.jpg http://i.imgur.com/pzTdvtJ.jpg http://i.imgur.com/YPOKBEN.jpg Broken Record Talk fucked around with this message at 19:42 on Mar 8, 2017 |
