Complex issues reduced down into catchphrases, and direct politicking through handouts and favoritism. Even Thomas Nast, sort of the father of modern political cartoons, made some lovely anti-popery and anti-Irish cartoons. I was being a little facetious with the importance of political cartooning (sorry Deep Hurting!)
