Hey so barring any serious changes bigger than new heists or packs, I don't really plan on updating the OP any time soon, so if anyone wants to take the reign and make a new thread one of these days, PM me or something.

BurntCornMuffin posted:Is there a goon Discord anywhere? The CTS Payday 2 link in the OP is dead. Yeah, sorry. I'm a bit lethargic about the OP. I keep up on the thread, though.

anime tupac posted:Also, to those of you who are familiar with the game's weird backstory involving ancient societies and Akkadian death gods or whatever, I assume there's a reason that the Benevolent Bank logo is basically the Maltese Cross? Lol at remembering I brought this up like five years ago in secrets discussions. Oh god my life.

Think I'm gonna re-install the game next week.

Discendo Vox posted:The Pedant is sending us to Union Station for another train job. We're stealing onto a train that's leaving there soon, to grab its cargo, some- wait, what? Sorry, guys- now's no time to Take a Break. Brick, "The Chef" has some missions for us, including raiding a history museum for old militaria. You'll go in disguised as Bodhi's food truck. Extraction will be the tank in the front courtyard. Yardbomb posted:Played the beta some too, I was super apprehensive because other than Telltale S1, Walking Dead games don't exactly have a hot history but I was pleasantly surprised, game looks and feels nice to kills zambies in, plus it's a lot more methodical feeling compared to usual zombo shooters too, which is something I've always kind of wanted to see more of. I always tend to get turned off of zombie games when they start throwing in special zombies. Like I'd just be down for a version of L4D that's rebalanced around just fighting the chaff zombies. So, I'm likely not going to update the OP anymore (shocker), and there's been a lot added since I stopped. If anyone wants to make a more up-to-date one for the final stretch of PD2, go for it.

They kind of created a problem by having so much content in Payday 2. Like, it's gonna feel so off to have Payday 3 start with like four characters, a dozen guns, a handful of heists, and have to pick up from a really convoluted story patched together over like five years. You'd almost have to sit on it for a few years to make everyone miss the game enough.

So with the recent announcement, I'm gonna clean up the OP in case I start a new thread or someone else does.

Shaved out a lot of outdated stuff in the OP for now. It also now only directs Goons to the Discord, since the Mumble is basically dead. I think I'm definitely gonna start a new thread or encourage a new one.

Bought in. Enjoying it so far. I don't know if I'll make a new OP or thread atm, so if anyone feels like doing either, feel free.

Kinda funny to see how people are not aware of the new systems. I just had a G&S mission where someone alerted a guard. One of the pubs freaked out, trying to get us to restart, then rage quit. They didn't know that guards will just escort you out of a private area and we finished the rest of the mission just fine. Overall, I'm hopefully optimistic. As fun as it was to rack up 200+ kills in PD2, I'm kind of welcoming the return to a more subdued and zoomed-in (at the moment) experience. It feels like I'm doing more heisting, as opposed to just playing a horde shooter that occasionally throws a hurdle at me.

I do have some qualms, but for positivity's sake: -Objectives feel better in general. Drills, hacks, and the like aren't as long, keeping you focused on what's at hand. -Toning down the combat rewards teamplay more. You're not left with one or more players on killing sprees while everyone else does the grunt work. -I like the hostage trading system quite a bit. Buying that extra minute or so is really helpful. -Grabbing loot feels more meaningful. That extra bag or so can be difficult but worth it once you get back to the store menus. -Stunning cops can be just as useful as killing them, whether it's taking some heat off of yourself or helping a subdued ally. -The changing up of some mechanics has taken a lot of the chaff out of the skill menu. -The stealth systems are about ten million times better, full stop. There are too many improvements to name without posting several paragraphs. My criticisms kind of come in the form of "I don't quite know yet" or things that could easily be improved by patches or modding. The first thing I noticed is that the in-game UI feels less responsive. PD2's prompts would snap up immediately with text that was noticeable in my periphery, followed by that satisfying circle to show you're working on an objective. Now, the prompts are quite small and feel mushy. I feel like interactions could just be more responsive. I'd also like to specify whether I want to do a mission loud or stealth. I don't know if I'm a fan of the new armor system. I'll have to level up my character and see what happens on different difficulties. The same goes for the fact that I don't know if I miss the deck building system yet. I wish they'd kept some of the other heisters like Sydney or Clover, as Joy and Pearl don't really do it for me. Also, check your key bindings when you start playing. I estimate that 90% of my thrown grenades have been complete accidents.
