Are they even pretending to be a militia any more? Drinking and smoking weed is probably par for the course, but they're all sitting staring into the campfire, so they've destroyed their night vision and won't see an intruder standing 20 feet away from them. Forget snipers, by this point keystone cops could sneak up behind them and hit them with billy clubs.

If you listen to their ramblings enough, they make the point that THEY never stopped anyone from going to work. THEY never occupied government buildings, they're just camping.

Of course they are wrong. It's all equally illegal. And frankly the refuge employees would probably prefer that they stayed in the bunkhouse rather than lighting fires and throwing trash all over the place. They are so filthy they are literally attracting dogs from miles away.

Temps are below freezing. If they cut off power to the refuge, then the pipes in the buildings could freeze and burst. Winter don't play.

There is no reason to risk it since those dumbasses abandoned buildings with heat, water, electric lights, mattresses, and showers in favor of a uncomfortable filthy hobo camp. Hopefully they don't accidentally burn the place down.

I wonder if Fry is his real name? If it is, his family has been up to this poo poo for ages.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fry_family

quote:

Origins
The name Fry has many spelling variations including Frey, Frye and Frei, all of which probably started out as a designation for someone who was free (i.e., not a serf and not belonging to a lord). The Old English root frig, meaning "free born", is associated with the name. Thus, anyone earning their freedom or who wished to be known for their free-born status, was potentially known by that name. Although the traditional no "e" spelling of Fry is typically associated with any number of British, Fry lines, it is by no means exclusive to those lines (particularly in the United States where genetically distinct Fry lines of British, Swiss, and Germanic origins have been identified).[4] In Britain, the earliest records of this surname appear mainly in the west country. Thomas le Frye, recorded in the Wiltshire rolls of 1273 and the Malmesbury region of North Wiltshire, provides one such example.[5]

The surname Fry is further associated with an inherent nobility of freedom. That is to say, the designation of freedom, as separable from serfdom, gave the individual bearing the name certain rights and privileges. In its earliest forms, depending on the source of the designation (e.g., as an honour won in battle or other service to a King, Lord or Nobleman), the name could also have included land ownership, knighthood, title or other privilege. It could also have been a designation bestowed upon a master craftsman who was "free" to travel to exercise his craft (e.g., in the tradition of a Free Mason who, due to the high demand for his skill, was given free and unmolested passage across borders). Later, those seeking religious and political freedom took the name themselves as an expression of their desire and love for freedom (e.g., the anabaptists who came to the American Colonies) or as a nickname given by others (e.g., as in the case of George Frey, born Eberhard (1732 in Germany)), whose story was recounted in the Pennsylvania church records of Rev. Traugott Frederick Illing [6]

Other names of similar social class include "Franklin", which also survives as a surname, "Freeman", Free, Fries, Freeze, and Froese.

No, you're right.

He had 11 children and 19 grandchildren. He doesn't get paid for those.

Nobody knows how many foster kids he had. They are estimating 8 at a time based on him receiving 115K in 2009. If they were very troubled teenage boys nobody else wanted then it makes sense he could have been paid the max rate.
http://www.opb.org/news/series/burn...m-burns-oregon/

quote:

That represents an enormous loss of income for the Finicums. According to a 2010 tax filing, Catholic Charities paid the family $115,343 to foster children in 2009. That year, foster parents were compensated between $22.31 and $37.49 per child, per day, meaning if the Finicums were paid at the maximum rate, they cared for, on average, eight children per day in 2009.

“That was my main source of income,” Finicum said. “My ranch, well, the cows just cover the costs of the ranch. If this means rice and beans for the next few years, so be it. We’re going to stay the course.”

Since then, Catholic Charities has increased payments for foster care significantly, but it does not itemize the dollar amount the Finicums were paid in subsequent years.

I love the people who are counter-protesting in Harny.

http://www.opb.org/news/series/burn...ls-say-go-home/

quote:

That anger erupted on Monday in the form of a huge shouting match on the steps of the county courthouse in Burns, Ore. It’s a small town of about 2,700 people, so it’s not every day that you see 400 or 500 people out on the street, screaming at each other.

Here’s what led up to the scene: A week ago, the FBI made its move against the leaders of the occupation, arresting them out on a stretch of lonely highway. During that operation, law enforcement shot and killed a militant named LaVoy Finicum, causing outrage among sympathizers all across the West. So they started flocking to Burns to show their displeasure with the FBI. They planned a big rally outside the courthouse, but when they got there, they came up against a wall of local people.

“Go home! Go home! Go home!” the locals chanted.

It wasn’t the reception Barbara Berg expected. She is an anti-government protester from Nevada, who until this moment believed most of the community supported the militants.

“I … want to know how many of them live here, how many are paid actors,” Berg says.

The self-styled “patriot” groups regrouped and got out their bullhorn.

“We are all Americans! We’re all Americans here!” shouted B.J. Soper, one of the leaders of a group called the Pacific Patriots Network. He tried to explain to the locals that his organization just wants to rein in an overly aggressive government.

“We want your community and the people accountable for the death of LaVoy Finicum held accountable because they are as guilty as the FBI that pulled the trigger!”

Now, people in Burns agree with a lot of what these groups have to say. Locals are tired of the heavy police and FBI presence since the takeover at the refuge, and most people here do think the federal government overreaches, especially when it comes to environmental rules and land use. But they’re also sick of outsiders hanging around, trying to start a movement.

“I don’t know who to wave to anymore,” says local resident Nancy Fine. “You have to kind of look and say, ‘Is that a friend or is that someone who doesn’t belong or doesn’t live here and has come here to make trouble?’ “

Fine says one sure way of identifying an outsider is a prominently displayed sidearm. She shoots a scornful glance at a trio of men standing in front of her, their arms crossed, their holsters hanging out.

“We all have guns but none of us wear them on our hip and kind of flaunt them around. We consider that extremely rude and ungentlemanly at best,” Fine says.
