Yeah, we don't want people to start questioning the legitimacy and integrity of journalism. Though I suppose that might have still been a consideration back in 2014 or whatever.

GlyphGryph posted:"[blah] is actually good because I know it will only actually be used against bad people" is not a very convincing argument, especially when the chilling effect is going to still hit people who aren't the bad people. It's okay though, because in 2017 nobody believes in professional journalism anymore anyway. In our post-truth world a guy with a blog or a youtube channel is considered as much a journalist as the guys on the nightly news. Posing as a random documentarian is no less ethical than posing as a random pizza delivery guy.

It will be hilarious if they bumble their way into prison reform. The same juries that don't want to convict good old boys and do want punish the federal government could side with him on this too.

Elephant Ambush posted:Is there any way at all to keep juries from being constantly inundated with jury nullification poo poo? They tried that this time. It led to the defence constantly being told to shut up, which made the jury think the government had something to hide. You would need the Jury in a separate room watching the trial on a feed with a 20 minute delay or something.

He said some officers "bragged about roughing up Dave Bundy, grinding his face into the ground and Dave Bundy having little bits of gravel stuck in his face.' quote:Wooten accused Dan Love, the former special agent-in-charge of the cattle roundup for the Bureau of Land Management, of intentionally ignoring direction from the U.S. Attorney's Office and his superiors "in order to command the most intrusive, oppressive, large scale and militaristic trespass cattle impound possible.'' quote:On Feb. 16, Wooten said he asked Myhre if statements that Love made, such as "Go out there and kick Cliven Bundy in the mouth (or teeth) and take his cattle'' or "I need you to get the troops fired up to go get those cows and not take any crap from anyone'' would be considered evidence that must be shared with the defense. He said that Myhre replied, saying something like "we do now'' or "it is now.'' It is funny that Bundy supporters would probably think this sort of thing was fine if it was arizona sheriff Arpaio doing it, lol. It is not fine though.

I doubt they're growing anything on that farm since the farmer has been in jail for 2 years. I wonder if the Bundys will try to sue for all the disruption and expense they've gone through, or if they'll count their blessings and leave well enough alone?

Their house was filthy and filled with vermin that spread to neighboring houses, which MOVE refused to do anything about because of their crazy views on animal rights despite it creating a health hazard for neighbors. Dr. Gitmo Moneyson posted:It doesn’t justify the 60+ other houses that got burned down, either. On the upside, burning down all the houses got rid of the vermin. If it is any consolation a lot of them ended up spending 1-2 years in custody waiting for trial. Not being convicted in those circumstances isn't the same as getting off scot-free. I can't imagine any of the wives were thrilled about being left to take care of the kids alone and whatnot. That may have a chilling effect. Or they will go hog wild and the feds will just shot them instead of pussyfooting around.
