Not strictly OSHA because this is in a residential building and not in the US, but I present to you:

It's a notice of a fire code violation due to flammable material that could obstruct the emergency exit

An electrician has died after falling 53 storeys from a construction site in Los Angeles.

quote:

Police were quoted as saying the man struck the rear of a car on Wilshire Boulevard when he fell.

It was reportedly only the man's second day working on the project.

The man died at the site of the Wilshire Grand Center, part of $1bn (£690m) development which will be the tallest building on the US West Coast when completed.

Officials from the construction company said the man was not supposed to be above the third floor and had removed his hardhat.

An eyewitness told AP the driver of the car that was struck was "hysterical',' waving her hands in the air and holding her head. She was later taken to hospital.

At least it wasn't his last day. And wear your hardhats, people!

Police in Narayanganj say it is unclear why Sagar Barman was assaulted.

Last year, a 13-year-old boy was killed in the same way in a vehicle workshop in another part of the country.

Two men were sentenced to death over the case, which sparked large protests.

Rakib Hawlader died in August last year after air was pumped into his body in retaliation for leaving his job.

Bruno Travalja, 52, was kneeling to take a measurement on the 42nd floor of the Manhattan building when he stood up and felt "dizzy", say police reports.

His body was found between 52nd and 53rd streets in midtown on Thursday afternoon, according to local media.

Officials are investigating whether faulty equipment or any violated safety protocols were factors in the death.

Like most everywhere in europe, there are inspections once every two years for passenger vehicles, and they're also mostly an inconvenience for poor people and anyone with mods. It used to be that you could get your ride "inspected" for roughly double the regular fee without the car ever leaving your garage but they're trying to crack down on it by requiring photo evidence and other bullshit.

Also regarding the bridge, I think I figured out a relatively cheap solution that wouldn't involve replacing the sewer or raising the tracks: just install a ramp and have trucks go really fast through there:

The ramp could even be raised hydraulically to let normal traffic through. Too bad Sketchup doesn't do animation.

I'm not a cage engineer but while it just barely did the job, it should've been much stronger. It's fine for a trackday but considering the huge cliffs you can fall off at every corner, it should've been much better reinforced for an event like Pikes Peak. Here are some comments from some random dude on the internet:

quote:

it should have a full X-brace behind the driver/passenger instead of a single diagonal
it should have another X-brace over them again instead of a single diagonal, NASCAR style bars are worthless in a rally type environment
should've been classic X-style door bars that wouldn't have folded
the B-pillar of the cage should've been tied to the B-pillar of the car,
the seats should've been tied to the cage - bottoms and backs - instead of just the floor(the car's B-pillar collapsing is what broke the passengers seat free)
it should've had loving straight A-pillar supports like the builder was told NUMEROUS times
on top of that, the car should've also had window nets and arm restraints.
Does OSHA regulate professional racing? It's an job for the drivers after all.

Ethiopia landslide: Number of dead at rubbish dump hits 113

quote:

The death toll from Saturday's landslide at a vast dump in Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa, has now risen to 113 people, local officials say.
A search operation at the Koshe landfill will continue overnight. As many as 150 people are believed to have been at the site during the landslide.
Meanwhile, the funerals of some of the victims have taken place.
The dump, which has served the city of four million for more than five decades, provided shelter for some.
The country is currently observing three days of mourning for those who died.
Hundreds of people attempt to make a living by scavenging at the landfill site, sifting through the rubbish for items they can sell. Some resided at the rubbish dump permanently.

No they do, almost always, but the ABS system can disengage the brakes as it wants since it controls separate valves for each brake (that's how it works). Some early ones are known to go nuts under certain rain/snow conditions and fully disable the brakes.
