Positive aspect of a Trump Presidency: the Zodiac Killer is finally caught (its Ted Cruz) Alternately, this. Seriously, it's difficult to say because 1) Trump has literally no experience in elected office, and 2) I'm not sure if he has any real policy ideas. This is made more complected still because the dude has his picture in the DSM-IV for Narcissistic Personality Disorder. That's a whole fuckton of wild cards. To try and maybe say something useful, thanks to this thread, I now realize people like Trump have been elected President before - sort of. Andrew Jackson was a straight populist who only cared about white people and their interests. It's not just me saying it, either. There's also John Tyler. He was William Henry Harrison's VP - untill Harrison died a month after becoming president. The weird thing about Tyler is that once he became president, he gave no fucks about what anybody thought, and ended up vetoing bills from his own party. (He had some very specific views on the division of power in America.) He left office after one term and didn't seek re-election (for the first time, Congress considered trying to impeach a president), but he was a president who essentially didn't give a poo poo about politics. As for presidents who were probably not suited to the office, you have guys like Franklin Pierce and Warren G. Harding. Both were well meaning, but poo poo got away from them in a serious way. Pierce was a compromise candidate, but once he got to Washington, well, it was the runup to civil war and fires were breaking out everywhere. He had a few modest successes but this was overshadowed by Bleeding Kansas (not as fun as it sounds) and a series of comical foerign policy failures (Pierce had for patronage reasons had to appoint some might dim bulbs in the state department, and they managed to take Spain wanting to sell America Cuba and spoil it by publishing a militaristic manifesto about annexing Cuba.) Pierce also drank. A lot. (At some point in his Presidency he was arrested and let go for being a drunken sot on a horse.) Harding looked presidential too, and was probably lucky to die in office. When he died he was genuinely popular - and then the comical corruption of his administration became known, including the infamous Teapot Dome scandal, where friends of Harding had arranged to sell the oil reserve of the US Navy to unscrupulous oilmen. So yeah, the various flavors of Trump had been experienced before (including crazy - Johnson [the Johnson after Lincoln] had a total nervous breakdown while in office and focused on winning the trust of the mice living in the white house) but, er, not all at the same time.
