Trump doubling down on how erotic he felt the Chinese display of power was at Tiennamen Square and saying he's firm in his belief that over a billion people are active militants against the US who should all be tortured to death was pretty interesting IMHO

Nope, these numbers don't matter at all because lol nothing matters. Definitely do look deeper into how the demographics break down because hey it is still March and some Great Deals can be made.

romney was winning by 10 points this time 4 years ago, demographic arguments are great and all but the GOP has been very carefully making it as difficult as possible for many of those groups to vote in november

Trump has nowhere to go in the GE because (as was hammered home in 2012) the extremes you need to go to win the GOP nomination makes you completely unelectable in the general against a ham sandwich. Trump in his natural mode of operation went 10 times further than necessary. His extremely high exposure is his own worst enemy, hard to reinvent yourself to people who hate you. The GOP needs latinos and african americans to win, Trump isn't winning those demos in 1000 years.

If he took didn't paint with such a broad brush, he could have succeeded. Focus on the economic aspect of illegal immigration, call for a temporary ban on all people coming from countries with a significant ISIS presence, and call out the white supremacists showing up at rallies. If he did that, he would have had the big tent needed to win a general election. Instead he found a way to get the Republican donor class on the same side as minorities, and foreign policy hawks seeing a party with a socialist running for presidents as a lesser evil.

I enjoy that you've adopted the concept that a ham sandwich painted blue could garner the votes of the loyal/captive Democratic base. Its the Independents that a candidate actually needs to appeal to in order to win.

most independents actually are more reliable partisan voters than most people who declare party affiliation, the mythical swing voter is virtually nonexistent in the grand scheme of things

you absolutely win elections by boosting your own turnout and/or depressing your opponent's

Independents don't decide elections. In fact, they don't really even exist. But to humor you dems DO make up a majority in swing states which is why it's an incredibly huge up hill battle for the GOP in the general and thats assuming your working with someone like Trump who hasn't already alienated literally every other critical demo.

this is correct, it's why all this talk of Reagan democrats is bullshit. these people are republicans and have been for 20 years. the tea party is overwhelmingly "independent" yet self-described tea party voters are, in some areas, more likely to support the republican candidate than registered republicans. democrats win elections by getting young and minority voters to the polls, republicans win by keeping them away.
