Little Mac posted:Iron Man was just kinda... okay? I like his voice for Tony quite a bit but it was a bit too much too fast. Bethany Cabe is a weird cut, as is Jocasta. Honestly, pre-2008 Iron Man characters need a whole new introduction. I disagree, but that's mostly because I feel 'too much, too fast' was a deliberate thing. It's throwing both the new character AND the readers into the deep end, and saying "Look, don't worry about the details too much- it's cool, look, here's Iron Man Megazord punching Fin Fang Foom." And honestly? That's the sort of thing I love. It's basically Tony Stark making his own version of the Future Foundation.

I’m really loving Waid’s Doctor Strange two issues in. Changing the setting to space on a mission to find other worldly magic has really reinvigorated the character for me.

It's been a really strong start and the art is just phenomenal. The book's been pretty good post-SW but this is a cool direction that's got so much potential.

His original pages sell for $2-3000 depending. And that's artwork he also got paid his page rate for so I'm betting an original one off he won't make any other money on would be crazy priced.

Okay, so he just needs to do 1-2 a month to live comfortably. gently caress doing 22 interior pages at that point.

His "big break" was working on the Giffen/DeMatteis era Justice League, where he did full interiors for issues 31-35, then 37-40. He did 43 and 44 and fell behind and only four pages of issue 45, took some time off and drew all of issue 51. He then took a year or so off to draw a Star Trek OGN with Chris Claremont and drew... most of the 96 pages? Then drew parts of four (non-contiguous) issues of the Legionnaires reboot in 1993, drew a few issues of Ghost for Dark Horse, two issues of a Gen13 mini-series, maybe a Vampirella one-shot I've forgotten? So basically the last time he did something resembling monthly interiors was about 28 years ago.

Speaking of porn commissions, it's never going to stop being hilarious to me that Joe Schuster drew bondage comics for the mob. Especially since he can't draw that many different different faces so it just looks like Lois Lane is topping Clark Kent.

From all of the "creator pay survey" things over the past few years, companies will pay you 2-3x what they do for an interior page for a cover. This is skewed a bit because the people responding to these are generally people like Reilly Brown (I'm not making GBS threads on him or anything of the sort, I'm just saying he's someone who openly talks about this sort of thing) and Brown is not at the level of an Adam Hughes (or any other really high profile 'name' artist), so the numbers are probably skewed even more if you're Hughes or Ross or Cho or whomever. The other huge thing here is the resale of pages, yeah. To use one example, here's Paolo Rivera's original art dealer's page. Regardless of what you get paid by the company, a page like this apparently sells (or hasn't sold yet) for $200: If there's cool action or popular characters, maybe you can ask for $600 for a page like this: If it's a splash page, that might go up to $1000 or so: Meanwhile all of Rivera's covers (some of which are painted, some of which are just linework) are on the site for anywhere from $2000 to $11,000. Once you've hit the point that you can get a lot of cover work, you've got to really love sequential art (or be doing something creator owned) to want to go down into the trenches of drawing a car chase with proper perspective and storytelling, especially because you're not going to be able to resell it for a fraction of "Cool Hero Looking Cool in a void" could get you. I'm not saying it isn't a more aesthetically pleasing thing to hang on a wall, but in terms of Rivera's time do you really think this: Was twenty times more labor intensive than that Mole Man page up there? Because one of them is going to net him twenty times as much money.
