this was almost as bad an idea as the long-suffering Akira live action movie in development hell. I might be less nonplussed at the fact Johansson is in this at all than the fact she's a white lady. I mean whatever if it's going to gently caress up the location and all, but I don't think ScarJo is very talented, like at all. How many successful live-action animes have been made for American audiences? Cowboy Bebop and Akira are shelved and the DBZ film was garbage.

Renoistic posted:Insane, however I do hope they use some visual trickery to make her look less human and more "uncanny valley". In the manga they even point out that her cyborg body is designed to look like a cheap, off-brand model, and not a top-of-the-line military model. that all sounds insanely cool, I'm sure none of it will be implemented into what might just be some dumbed down robot flick. I lost faith in poo poo like this since "I, Robot" which was a gloriously awful bastardization of the source material. The "asianization" tech should tell you all you need to know about how loving stupid the people behind this project are. Why not just eventually put someone in blackface for Black Panther, jesus

if this movie's role is to be so loving bad that the american live-action Akira idea is finally put to death forever then I'm all for it

Tomtrek posted:Full trailer has dropped: yeah they could have just called it Ultraviolet 2: Asian Edition with how many stock action things we're seeing here. Can't see this being a big hit really anywhere.
