If you notice, the maps actually line up fairly well. The only areas that don't have at least *some* Democratic control is Florida, Virginia and some of the Great Lakes region. The issue then is not so much that the Republicans have domination at the state levels, but that there are a bunch of states that just don't vote Democratic at all.
Virginia had a split 20/20 Democratic Senate until some fuckery with a Senator literally selling his seat.

Also, used car salesman Terry McAuliffe is the reasonably popular Democratic Governor of Virginia.

This actually makes your point stronger, since it removes one of the states that doesn't line up.

Five months of nonstop clowning on Trump via serious, well-considered statements of policy. Hail Satan.
http://time.com/4355797/hillary-clinton-donald-trump-foreign-policy-speech-transcript/

quote:

He says he has foreign policy experience because he ran the Miss Universe pageant in Russia.
And to top it off, he believes America is weak. An embarrassment. He called our military a disaster. He said we are – and I quote – a “third-world country.” And he’s been saying things like that for decades.
Those are the words my friends of someone who doesn’t understand America or the world.
--
Of course Trump doesn’t have answers to those questions. Donald Trump doesn’t know the first thing about Iran or its nuclear program. Ask him. It’ll become very clear, very quickly.
There’s no risk of people losing their lives if you blow up a golf-course deal.

But it doesn’t work like that in world affairs. Just like being interviewed on the same episode of “60 Minutes” as Putin was, is not the same thing as actually dealing with Putin.
--
And I have to say, I don’t understand Donald’s bizarre fascination with dictators and strongmen who have no love for America. He praised China for the Tiananmen Square massacre; he said it showed strength. He said, “You’ve got to give Kim Jong Un credit” for taking over North Korea – something he did by murdering everyone he saw as a threat, including his own uncle, which Donald described gleefully, like he was recapping an action movie. And he said if he were grading Vladimir Putin as a leader, he’d give him an A.

Now, I’ll leave it to the psychiatrists to explain his affection for tyrants.
--
Now imagine Donald Trump sitting in the Situation Room, making life-or-death decisions on behalf of the United States. Imagine him deciding whether to send your spouses or children into battle. Imagine if he had not just his Twitter account at his disposal when he’s angry, but America’s entire arsenal.

Do we want him making those calls – someone thin-skinned and quick to anger, who lashes out at the smallest criticism? Do we want his finger anywhere near the button?

I have a lot of faith that the American people will make the right decision. This is a country with a deep reservoir of common sense and national pride. We’re all counting on that.
Oh I love the :iceburn:s just sprinkled in there. Hillary is already good at needling Trump and getting a response:

In 1978 and 1979, lawyer and First Lady of Arkansas Hillary Rodham engaged in a series of trades of cattle futures contracts. Her initial $1,000 investment had generated nearly $100,000 when she stopped trading after ten months.
Hillary made some money in the stock market in 1978/1979. It's June 2016, 38 years later, and there are still huge articles about how this is a scandal:
http://www.nationalreview.com/article/436066/hillary-clinton-cattle-futures-windfall
http://www.thefiscaltimes.com/Columns/2016/02/02/Why-37-Year-Old-Clinton-Financial-Scandal-Still-Relevant
If it was Trump this would just be used as an example of his good business acumen.

But since it's Hillary, it's still a scandal even though it happened before Voyager 1 sent us pictures of Jupiter. And no, I'm not making that up:
http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/spaceimages/details.php?id=PIA00014

quote:

This dramatic view of Jupiter's Great Red Spot and its surroundings was obtained by Voyager 1 on Feb. 25, 1979, when the spacecraft was 5.7 million miles (9.2 million kilometers) from Jupiter. Cloud details as small as 100 miles (160 kilometers) across can be seen here. The colorful, wavy cloud pattern to the left of the Red Spot is a region of extraordinarily complex end variable wave motion. The Jet Propulsion Laboratory manages the Voyager mission for NASA's Office of Space Science.

http://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/science/jupiter.html
NASA launched the two Voyager spacecraft to Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune in the late summer of 1977. Voyager 1's closest approach to Jupiter occurred March 5, 1979. Voyager 2's closest approach was July 9, 1979.

Photography of Jupiter began in January 1979, when images of the brightly banded planet already exceeded the best taken from Earth. Voyager 1 completed its Jupiter encounter in early April, after taking almost 19,000 pictures and many other scientific measurements.
The oldest Hillary scandal: literally older than the first pictures of the outer planets from the Voyager probes.

They will never let any of it die; even after we've all been reduced to cosmic space dust you will hear the void echo "Benghazi!".

Now that the RNC platform is being released and it's beyond the pale and unprecedented in terms of horror and an official endorsement of the violent enforcement of straight white supremacy (removes any mention of Palestinians at all, officially endorses conversion rape/suicide camps), I look forward to this argument dying as a way for Paulites to convince themselves that a vote for Trump would be identical to one for Clinton

FAUXTON posted:

Calling conversion therapy camps "suicide/rape camps" isn't a charitable term but it sure as hell isn't hyperbole. The GOP endorsed their use as a matter of "parent choice" in de-gaying their children.

Overall we rate this comment mostly true.

Epic High Five posted:

And yeah that is exactly what those camps are. They just adopted a resolution to agree that ISIS does not target LGBT people as well. Looks like the evangelicals are forcing them to come back home after making tepid outreach attempts post-Pulse
I can't even think of a pithy comment, this poo poo is just loving gross. Conversion "therapy" literally destroys lives, and ISIL's publicly thrown gay people off of buildings on multiple occasions in multiple cities. The Evangelical wing is thrashing as hard as they can against progress, they're not dead yet.

Yeah, even if she does pick up Georgia/Arizona/Missouri (lol that we're even talking about that possibility) the margins in those states will likely be super thin, and so we wouldn't get a complete count of the votes before the West coast would come in. Think 2008 North Carolina, and how long it took to verify that Obama won it.

Trump has been a pile of human garbage forever, it's just coming into the public light now:
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/12/nyregion/donald-trump-atlantic-city.html

The whole thing's a pro-read, but here's one of the things Hillary hit Trump on in the debate:

quote:

Just over a year after it opened, the Taj Mahal was in bankruptcy court, followed in 1992 by both the Plaza and the Castle. In the plan that was worked out, Mr. Trump ceded to the lenders a 50 percent stake in the businesses in return for lower interest rates. The lenders agreed to defer certain principal and interest payments and hold off on personal claims against Mr. Trump for five years. But there was little or no reduction in the enormous debts that would plague his gambling empire far into the future.

Mr. Trump now says he looks back on the period as his golden era in the casino business.

“Early on, I took a lot of money out of the casinos with the financings and the things we do,” he said in a recent interview. “Atlantic City was a very good cash cow for me for a long time.”

Others were hurt.

“He helped expand Atlantic City, but he just did not put the equity into the projects he should have to keep them solvent,” said H. Steven Norton, a casino consultant and a former casino executive at Resorts International. “When he went bankrupt, he not only cost bondholders money, but he hurt a lot of small businesses that helped him construct the Taj Mahal.”

Beth Rosser of West Chester, Pa., is still bitter over what happened to her father, whose company Triad Building Specialties nearly collapsed when Mr. Trump took the Taj into bankruptcy. It took three years to recover any money owed for his work on the casino, she said, and her father received only 30 cents on the dollar.

“Trump crawled his way to the top on the back of little guys, one of them being my father,” said Ms. Rosser, who runs Triad today. “He had no regard for thousands of men and women who worked on those projects. He says he’ll make America great again, but his past shows the complete opposite of that.”

Trump has stiffed and hosed people over decades, and he has zero remorse. Hell, he's proud of it.
