By the way, you can make a lot of games 3D with Tridef 3D: https://www.tridef.com/cart/product.php?productid=3

It has a 2 week trial, and it works great with virtual desktop. Run game, hit F7, play game on a big honking 3D screen. Tried a couple games and it works great with most, though UI is often all wrong due to not being at the correct depth, so it's not very good for UI heavy games like MMOs.

Doing jumpy puzzles in stereo 3d in gw2 is fun. Also, warframe in 3d is as insane as it sounds.

As soon as it turned over control to me I was fighting with the controls to keep it level. After 10 seconds of spinning uncontrollably, I had to rip off the headset. On the plus side, I'm only about halfway through my giant bag of ginger chews.

All I want is a super chill flight sim with easy controls to fly around in.

Make sure you *disable* mouse axis, otherwise if you don't leave it centered on your screen your plane will obviously trim itself wherever.

Did you go through and set your own controls for War Thunder? Make sure there isn't some other device giving input to war thunder that's messing you up.

If anything, War Thunder is worth loading up in VR just to fly around a bit. I'm not good enough at sim battles to play super serious and you just can't be very good at the game from the cockpit in the arcade battles. I loaded up War Thunder in VR and flew around a bunch and thought it was really cool. Then I took off my headset and started flying 3rd person with mouse and keyboard in order to be able to compete with everyone else.

I play arcade in "virtual cockpit" (the thing that is just hud) and it owns a lot anyway. Not as good as simulator battles, of course, but not all my friends can stomach that.

I think the game just doesn't have a big enough player base or something. In warthunder, in the lower ranks, I rarely see the same players.

Why do non-gamers care though? They're hardly even the target audience.

That said, obviously, a lot of hardcore people are on board already, and anyone who keeps saying that vr is a fad after they actually tried it is in my experience either a jaded old person, or just a shitlord in general. Until they try it, a lot of people go "this is just another wii", but as anyone who played both wii and vive will tell you, it really isn't.

I've demoed my vive to non-gamer and casual gamer people who never heard of VR and in 50% cases the result is that they want this poo poo *now*, but not at current price (especially after I mention that this is just the first consumer product and in 2 years it'll be both cheaper and much better). Or, they're just very impressed, but generally don't play games at all, so they're not too interested. (though some change their mind very quickly when they try tilt brush :v:)

I'm not trying to justify it, I'm just saying you can't act like there's no precedent.

If someone invests in a nice G-Sync monitor they've de-facto locked themselves into buying Nvidia cards for the life of the monitor, and the same goes for a FreeSync monitor and AMD.

"The monitor will still work", yeah no one is going to give up adaptive sync once they've spent some time with it. I can tell you this because I use it and it's the best thing to happen to monitors in decades.

No, the best thing to happen to monitors is VR. 2nd best that happened is HDR. Adaptive sync is a distant 3rd. Yes, it's a neat thing, but thankfully g-sync is pretty much dead on arrival, since similar freesync screens go for up to $300 less, so nvidia will have to support it sooner or later. Not to mention it's a part of DP1.4 or somesuch. G-sync won't last. Hopefully, neither will Oculus Store.

Also, War Thunder is free, and I find myself starting it up, clicking test flight and just flying around a random island in the free pre-ww2 slow flyers way more often than I want to admit. It's just so nice, and it doesn't stutter one bit, unlike elite or DCS.

I dunno what 3DM is, but it's steam making cracking games obsolete, not better DRM. There's just no motivation anymore. Steam is absolutely exploding in historical "pirate" countries. For example, Russia: http://steamspy.com/country/RU

Why bother cracking something if your main audience is gone?

I'm sure if there was still motivation to crack games, they'd still get cracked in days, maaaybe weeks. There's what, a dozen people working on Denuvo DRM? There's a million nerds out there who will try to crack your game if there's enough demand. Just due to the fact that every software has bugs, "working DRM" can't exist. Yeah, Denuvo is good, sure, but it's not infallible any more than any other DRM. If I buy something and can get it to run on my machine, I can dump a working unencrypted copy somewhere. We might have even come to the point where I'll need actual external hardware to do MITM between the CPU and RAM or some poo poo, sure, but there will always be a way.

HDR should at least do away with dumb gradient banding if nothing else. Yes, it's barely to not existent on a good monitor in most situations, but it's still there and it annoys me to hell and back. I play a lot of space games, and it can sometimes get super apparent on an "almost black but not quite" backgrounds.

Meanwhile, I don't care about *sync because tearing isn't a thing on my monitor/gpu combo for some reason, as is on a lot of others. Plus, nvidia now has that thing that doesn't add latency if you enable vsync. VR desktop is your peek into the future of monitors. Yes, right now it sucks, because for it to be comfortable you need to make text huge, which defeats the point of having a huge screen.

But when resolution gets better, why settle for 2 or 3 or 7 monitors on your desk, when you can sit in a sphere of monitor, on a swivel chair.
