had a bunch of customers dial in for an operations update call in the middle of an emergency board call, that was awkward

In college we had a private mumble server running on one of the lab machines and just used that for internal conference calls. worked awesome, never any problems.

here we use Skype and it's just the usual garbage. interviewed a guy last year for a high level position and he gave us three different wrong user names before we gave up and just did the interview over one guy's iPhone in speaker mode

did you hire him?

we just recently adopted a new policy where you have to change your password every sixty day, it has to have at least eight characters and some numbers and some letters.

the olds revolted it was glorious

help desk has to go out and help people change and pick their passwords it's amazing

so many post its with passwords

i have a vendor that will only use zoom for their meetings, it works fine on my machine but a lot of people i work with can't get it running. so i will join the zoom with one or two others, then we will use microsoft skype for business to bring in the rest of our group. also our french colleagues have not yet been included in phase four of the new company conference experience, so they will open up a webex.

it then goes something like this

vendor in zoom shares screen -> BA in skype for business & zoom starts sharing their screen of the zoom screen, in skype for business -> someone in the french office connects to our video conference (qualcomm) in a physical room and shares that over webex so long as the BA from step 2 is also sharing over qualcomm

sometimes then we also conference people in with iphones

its awesome and is almost as fun as our mixed lync/sametime/aol im environment

then get the WebEx people to conference in the vendor and you have a corporate ourobouros

imagine if you will nine people in a conference room

the senior manager who called the meeting has power point slides on her laptop, and would like said slides to be on the conference room screen

five minutes is spent to change the screen's input to the laptop

five more minutes were spent disconnecting the room's phone so the laptop could be plugged into the network so the senior manager could remote into the laptop from the boardroom's computer, two feet away, so the slides would be visible on the screen

once had an Iraq customer call me in the middle of my morning dump, happy to report I fixed his issue and got him to sign more business with us

it was a hard push but we got a very firm commitment, made quite a splash
