I bought VLR like 2 years ago and it never really clicked but I decided to try it again a few weeks ago and got totally hooked and could play nothing else until I finished it. Going to play ZTD on my PlayStation Vita and I sure hope it's good .... not sure how I feel about the new art style, it looked ok in screenshots but I watched a video and the animation is really bad. They could definitely take some lessons from the guys who do the Overwatch porn

I played VLR first and it was great on its own but there were some reveals that didn't really mean anything to me since I hadn't played 999. If you can't find a copy of the DS cart for 999 I think there's a visual novel version on iOS with all the puzzles stripped out but at that point you might as well watch an LP or something

Uhhhh iirc the actual password might be another thing with the darts that I found harder than the bonus solution. I know one of those loving dice puzzles works like that and it was really annoying. If they still let you mess with the dartboard after getting the bonus password that's probably the case

I like the phone version of The World Ends With You better than the DS one. the changes to the battle system are debatable (I liked em) but the sound quality and higher res graphics are so nice. Ghost Trick works great on a phone too

Nah there's no puzzles in the English phone version either but I guess it's better than not playing it at all. Honestly the puzzles are a nice break from the VN stuff but it's not like they're thematically tied to the rest of the game or anything, outside of the puzzle rooms themselves the dialogue barely acknowledged their existence.

Anyone played Steins;Gate? I know it doesn't have the puzzle room stuff from Zero Escape (although according to reviews they're kinda downplayed in ZEro Time Dilemma anyway) and probably barely qualifies as a game but it's like $10 in the PSN flash sale right now and im pretty sure im gonna be in major withdrawals after burning through ZTD, and from what I've read maybe it will scratch the same crazy scifi time travel VN itch as the ZE games. Worth playing/reading? VLR is the only visual novel style game I've ever hosed with so I don't really have a frame of reference . Definitely a plus if there's a similarly complex series of branching paths but even if it doesn't go quite as deep I can deal as long as it's entertaining

Ok that was actually kind of a hassle because the Vita doesn't have support for multiple accounts like a PS4 so I had to restore all my settings and I won't be able to play any of my US games while I'm on my UK account. But I don't plan on playing anything else until I finish ZTD anyways so no big loss . If anyone else is as brain damaged and impatient as I am you can get eu PSN codes from game.co.uk

Lmao yeah i had no doubt this game would own but I did not expect it to start loving with me in the first 5 minutes like that. Also I stayed away from all the preview videos that came out so I wasn't sure what to expect but so far I actually really really like all the 3D character designs even if the animation/lipsyncing is a little chunky. Some of the backgrounds look really cool too in 3D. Only grief is that you kinda have to have subtitles on because the music/voice balance is weird and I had to start over because I couldn't hear wtf some people were saying in the first few minutes.

Wow the whole 3-team structure and the fragments crank up the complexity so much ... I haven't even seen poo poo yet and I'm already getting my mind blown. Unless it majorly drops the ball later on (which I kinda doubt it will) this game is everything I was hoping for and more . The hype is real, game on and god speed.

Also if there was ever any doubt, if you're considering picking this up without having played the other games don't do it. I played VLR before 999 and still really enjoyed it but I'm barely an hour into this one and its already kinda critical that you know what's up with the rest of the series .

Honestly I think it's suited really well to playing on a touchscreen anyway, they changed the controls a little from VLR. Like you can pan around escape rooms REALLY quickly by swiping on the screen and it's great and navigating them in general is just really smooth compared to VLR

I like how the odds are extremely slim that any of us are dealing with any of the same poo poo after the short intro section. Seriously (non-specific very early game structural stuff) there are like 9 different fragments and puzzle rooms available right off the get-go and god knows what else to come. Im glad I played VLR this year because otherwise my brain would be mush right now. Also im happy to see that one of my only issues with VLR is being improved upon -- even though the puzzle rooms were fun they usually felt really arbitrary and what you did in them didn't tie into the narrative at all, it just felt like an excuse for some puzzles. So far two of the three I've done have involved some very serious story advancement tied to your actual solving of the puzzle room itself instead of just "do this to open the door so you can get on with the story" and that's freaking awesome. Which room are you talking about? Wonder if it's the one I'm on because it's a doozy and there's no way I'm doing it without a pen and paper and a calculator

The only minor thing I have to bitch about is how the skip text function works .... You have to enable it in the menu to even have it in un-played story parts but sometimes hitting the button will arbitrarily skip multiple lines of conversation instead of just the one that's currently displayed so it's really never "safe" to use if you don't want to miss anything.

I like the voice acting and the new cutscene structure a lot (and the animation isn't as bad as I expected considering they certainly didn't have the budget to mo-cap stuff) but sometimes I just wanna hurry up and get through the text as fast as I can read it and there's not really any good way to do so.

Pretty small nitpick though and overall it's worth it because I think I prefer the new 3D style to the traditional VN stuff. Even though the assets are simple they do some fun, dramatic stuff with the camera angles and a lot of the backgrounds look great . I also love how much faster and less clunky it is to navigate around the puzzle rooms

I just got that and it terrified me. Also (D Team robot room but maybe it happens elsewhere idk) being able to gently caress up a puzzle room so bad that you get a game over really hosed with my preconceptions of the series. I'm an extremely good gamer and never actually hosed things up enough to get things to that point but the game was pretty clear that this could potentially happen so now I guess I gotta go back and fail on purpose

Edit: the game overs in general seem to have a lot more content and plot-relevant stuff go on than in previous games, too. It's not just a fun "what-if" scenario like in VLR I feel like some of these Ive seen definitely must be vital to progressing the game. Also the only draw for me getting the game on 3DS was the notetaking function but I still feel like I haven't scratched the surface of poo poo and I have already written down way too much stuff to fit in the in-game notes and pen&paper seems pretty much necessary
