My favorite B5/Trek actor crossover is William Dennis Hunt, who had a run of the mill role on B5 and on DS9. What really gets me about his career isn't the distinction about being a crossover alumni, it's that his first acting role was as Emperor Wang the Perverted in Flesh Gordon.

IMDB: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0402669/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_t4

Motherfucker built a three decade acting career out of the sequel to Flesh Gordon. He doesn't work between the original (1974) and the sequel (1990), but he's on Who's The Boss and LA Law in the next two years, and a couple dozen more roles in just the 90s. Credit due to his agent, but he landed all those roles himself.

Flesh Gordon itself has a truly stunning array of special effects talent working on it. There's about 5 Oscars for effects work worth of talent, plus some Emmy's, plus the creative behind Michael Jackson's Thriller.

Now that's what I call hard sci-fi

Is there any truth or source to the rumor that Stewart's contract was up at the end of TNG S3 and the cliffhanger was an opportunity to write him out of the show if he didn't re-sign?

Picard was originally meant to be replaced by Riker after the first season or two, so Stewart having a limited contract at first seems plausible.

I have started watching TOS, which I have only caught random episodes off as a child on the BBC in the 80s. I think I may have seen like 10 episodes in total. I am 20 minutes into The Cage. It's nothing like any Trek I've ever seen yet so familiar, and it's frankly mesmerizing to watch. It must have been absolutely magical back when it was first broadcast.

Other than that, everyone is white and the mysogeny is just nuts.

This might be a long shot, but does anyone know if there's anywhere you could buy an office chair shaped like a captain's chair of any series? Not a model, not a gaming chair, but like a copy of a prop used in the show. I figured there would be some Star Trek merchandise but maybe there's no demand for this or they don't allow replicas to be commercially made because I can't really find anywhere that has it.

A lot of chairs used on Star Trek, including a few Captain's chairs, are ordinary commercially-available chairs, sometimes modified a little but often just used as-is. I get the impression that they tended to be on the expensive side, though, and they'd probably be even more so now. But hey, they're the exact chairs that were used in the show.

Yes, I've seen this but they have little to offer by way of captain's chair. I initially started looking for the Enterprise D's chair since it looks reasonably easy to produce but no luck, and nothing for Kirk's chairs either.

Still making my way through TOS for the first time. "There is no right way to hit a woman" is currently the weirdest quote I've encountered.

I am also surprised at how much of the Star Trek I already know is rooted in TOS, storywise and characterwise

I've gotten to Miri and at this point I am assuming that Kirk is an unreliable narrator, a sex-crazed, violent lunatic who rationalizes his crimes in his reports. "Oh no I was forced to kill all these people because, uh, they were robots! And those kids were actually 300 years old so if you think about it..."

Well I've watched the entire first series of TOS. It was terribly interesting, but way too much time has passed since its initial broadcast and its impact on the intervening time is too enormous to accurately judge it on its merits or flaws, I think. It was wildly uneven, and I was surprised by a number of things - how much of it is reused in movies and TNG, that Chekhov wasn't there from the start, how much Shatner hammed it up from scene one...

I feel lucky to have watched TNG first when I was young, as now it feels like that was the "let's do this show but properly this time" version of TOS.

I also have come to the conclusion that the only possible reading of Kirk and Spock's relationship is that they are lovers.

Look forward to start the second series, but I'll take a break for now.

Started watching series 2 of TOS in order of production and it's insanity right off the bat. All powerful aliens, hysterical women throwing themselves at Kirk, Spock being a cynical rear end in a top hat and Chekhov finally shows up but with hair that looks like a wig. I wonder what mad adventures await!

Watching the second series of TOS and Bones, Chief Medical Officer of the flagship of The Star Fleet, just hit a pregnant alien woman with a right hook to the face, then declared he's making it part of his medical treatments from now on.

And not only does everyone, the woman included, take this in stride, it also proves to be "just what was needed".
