wasn't the original Wonder Woman modeled after the creator and his wife's poly fucktoy

Yeah, William Moulton Marston was big into BDSM, and loved being tied up and beaten by strong women, including both his wife Elizabeth and his mistress Olive (who all lived together, raised one another's kids, and basically had a big poly family with surprisingly little drama). Marston died in the late 40s, and the two kept living together until the 80s.

He and Elizabeth also helped invent the lie detector.

The look and a lot of the character's mannerisms, attitudes, etc. came from his wife, while the signature bullet deflecting bracers supposedly came from a pair that Olive wore regularly.

"Not even girls want to be girls so long as our feminine archetype lacks force, strength, and power. Not wanting to be girls, they don't want to be tender, submissive, peace-loving as good women are. Women's strong qualities have become despised because of their weakness. The obvious remedy is to create a feminine character with all the strength of Superman plus all the allure of a good and beautiful woman."

quote:

"The only hope for peace is to teach people who are full of pep and unbound force to enjoy being bound... Only when the control of self by others is more pleasant than the unbound assertion of self in human relationships can we hope for a stable, peaceful human society... Giving to others, being controlled by them, submitting to other people cannot possibly be enjoyable without a strong erotic element."

Help me here: as a non-american I think I miss some bit of cultural context. I can understand being put off by real world issues intruding in the world of escapism, but some of the reactions are baffling to me. As stupid, egocentric and hyperbolic as it is, I even understand the fans who feel personally disrespected by the demonstration, I can even see a connection with veterans, founding fathers, etc. (because football, war, guns, cars, the revolution etc. are the sacred items, rituals and myths of the American religion), but why are so many people calling the kneeling players "stupid"?

One of the problems that these sort of very nationalistic people have with folks who don't share a similar sort of nationalism is that they know, deep down inside, that the country isn't actually as great as it pretends to be. They know that it was built on the backs of slaves, immigrants, abused minorities, and that, given the chance, the country would go right back to that, despite feeling a little guilty about it.

The cognitive dissonance caused by, say, the US running a military base where rape and abuse of the local populace is common and the picture of the military as clean cut, square jawed heroes who put down the Nazi menace hurts them, literally hurts them, and rather than doing the difficult soul searching and reevaluating of values ("Why is being an American so important to me? Why do I need to be definite by my race? Why have I not improved other aspects of my life so that I can take pride in those, rather than what I was handed at birth?"), it is easier to attack those who point out the contradiction. Clearly, you'd have to be stupid to think that all cops aren't dedicated heroes who only shoot criminals. Clearly, you have to be an idiot to think that racism still exists. They are the smart ones who have it all figured out. You're trying to complicate things and create problems.

Odds favor it will simply allow them to grow 1/3rd more beef while still hitting carbon emission caps, thus keeping the rate of emissions constant, while growing more beef overall.

quote:

Master P will go down as one of the greatest entrepreneurs in hip hop history. After launching Uncle P’s foods earlier this year, the music mogul/ entrepreneur wants to take over the cereal game as well.

On October 1st, Master P shared on Instagram a video announcing the launch of his new cereal “Uncle P’s Hoody Hoos!”

“Started from the bottom now we here,” the caption read. “They can’t beat us so they might as well join us, cause they not gonna stop us. we making history! The first hiphop cereal owned and produced by us #GoodisGood UnclePCereal.com @unclepcereal We changing the game! The more we make, the more we give #UncleP #PJfoods.”

The cereal brand takes its name from TRU’s 1998 single “Hoody Hoo.”

Earlier this year, Master P announced the launch of his food brand, “Uncle P’s Louisiana Seasoned.” This was a way to provide an alternative to brands such as Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben who used racist stereotyping on their packaging. Uncle P’s foods consisted of rice, pancake mix, syrup, beans, grits, and oatmeal and can be found in major grocery stores.
