I just wanted to chime in and say that the 8BITDO SNES gamepad with the wireless receiver is so great that I bought a 2nd one, and I can confirm the SNES will work with 2 wireless 8BITDO SNES pads without issue. I am not sure why I thought there could be an issue, but there isn't one. Works perfectly. Zero lag! Now who is going to be a bad enough dude to buy 5 of these for a multitap? Ineffiable posted:Yeah I'm just hoping the new Saturn device is cheaper and easier than the current designs. I'd pay between 100 to 200 for a device that means I don't have to worry about the disc drive. Same for a solution for the psx and ps2 (slim models) I am like this too. Sega CD, especially the model 1, is really finicky. Only some of them have replaceable lenses. The JVC ones are impossible to find replacements for. I do have to wonder why these are so expensive/impossible to make because I bought an ODE for the Wii (it was called a SunDisk or some crap like that) which let me literally cram a laptop hard drive inside a Wii and I think it was like $25. It was the only way to play Gamecube ISOs from a hard drive on the Wii at the time.

I cannot say the same thing for playing with any wireless controller on Android emulators though. It's really weird but I find myself playing the SNES so much more now that I got these. I don't know why having wireless controllers makes such a big difference but it does. My wife and I play Tetris (the SNES one with doctor Mario) against each other every single night now. OK this I had NO idea about. That is amazing. I am now buying 2 NES receivers. Yeah it will be a bit blasphemous playing NES games with an SNES controller, but not having my 1 year old rip the consoles out of the wall and me not having to worry about where the wire is dangling is huge. As for you wanting to replace the mushy d-pad in your NES30, though I cannot confirm with the NES30 because I do not own one, the SNES30 is absolutely identical to the original SNES controller inside (meaning the membranes and stuff). As an experiment I swapped out the d-pad, the d-pad membrane, the ABXY buttons, the ABXY membranes, and the L and R buttons and membranes between a real SNES controller and the SNES30 and it fit perfectly. Ineffiable posted:Yeah I can't think of flash carts as things to collect. They're more tools that allow you to get games on real hardware that you might not have been able to afford. I thought I was insane for having two Sega Saturn modchips but here we are in a situation where there are zero out there now. The only thing that stopped me from actually doing it is that they are not cheap.

I really hate when MAME cabinets have artwork for a thousand different games on it. I'm not sure why it bothers me but it does. When I found out the gutted machine I bought was originally an 1989 TMNT cabinet I went out and got all the original sideart and original marquee. Not even a reprint. The original one. It doesn't need to advertise that it has multiple games unless you're putting it in a pizzeria or something. Another thing that annoys me in MAME cabinets: LCD screens To be honest I am actually jealous of people who are happy with not caring about details like that. xamphear posted:No more so than usual. Can anyone else think of any examples of a video game where it could basically be considered a "take your money and run" scam other than "Plumber's Don't Wear Ties"? I swear if I were an attorney general I would have went after them for what is essentially a scam (or at the very least, false advertising). It would be like if Universal put out Jurassic Park on VHS but it was just text from the book scrolling the entire tape. It's the only time I would think you'd actually be able to file a class-action lawsuit against a video game for outright fraud. Any other examples of this other than "Star Citizen lol" and "anything LJN made"? I mean yeah there are a lot of lovely games but that one was clearly "haha we got you rear end in a top hat, thanks for the money" and I was wondering if it had ever been done before or since. I saw some guy selling this huge Nintendo-branded arcade machine and oh god everything about it got my spergy senses tinglin'. It had a huge Nintendo logo which made no sense. It had Hyperspin and every console and arcade ROM imaginable but only had button layouts like a huge NES pad so Street Fighter 2 was out of the question, and it had a 36" LCD screen. It literally looked like someone just put a bunch made a bunch of white plastic into a quazi-arcade machine shape and 2 arcade panels that looked like NES controllers for some reason and slapped whatever Best Buy TV was on sale that week right in there and called it a day. I definitely prefer the US SNES but I'm willing to admit it's probably nostalgia. But then again maybe not because I think the best looking console of all time is the PC Engine with the CD add on and I had neither of those growing up. I have a Japanese SFC as well so I can directly compare them and the US SNES is way, way more durable. Not that the SFC isn't durable, but the US SNES can be thrown down a flight of stairs. I have no clue why Nintendo went with purple accents but I love it. And they stuck with that for the Game Boy Color (it was first only available in purple) as well as the GameCube and GBA. The American SNES looks like a computer, which is probably why they designed it that way. Rounded edges were not in style in America at the time, according to Nintendo. If you look at American cars in 1990, everything was a box. The US SNES is the 1990 Corolla of consoles. Harlock posted:I'm ok with the Super Nintendo design. I first thought it was the former at first, meaning that you'd be required to have a Sync Stripper somewhere along the line. But it appears that this was only true for older firmware on the mini; the current iteration can handle it just fine but it man require adjusting the sync levels manually. I remember when I got fed up trying to figure out why my 1chip-03 snes was not giving me a stable image. They removed csync on that model and I couldn't remember what my cables were. Sync on composite or sync on csync? I got so fed up I just opened the SNES and literally jumped a wire from csync to composite sync. And guess what? It worked. Problem is I'm also thinking of getting into retro-gaming. 1) Try a computer/latop/modded Wii/whatever on your HDTV and see if you enjoy the experience. If you do not enjoy it and need it to be more authentic, move on to step two: 2) buy your favorite console. I personally would not get a Retron 5 because then I feel like I might as well just bother with a computer/latop/modded Wii/whatever on my HDTV. I personally enjoy the look of the hardware and the controllers, but most importantly, how accurate they are compared to emulators. When I had a modded Wii I almost never played my retro games. When I got the real systems, I played them a lot more. I am not really sure of the psychological reason for this but I imagine it's similar to people who are more likely to finish a physical book than they are a Kindle e-book. If you are happy with the image quality on your HDTV from the old console(s), move to step 3b. If you are not happy, move to step 3a: 3a) Buy a Framemeister for your HDTV or keep your CRT for retro gaming. 3b) Purchase a flashcart for your favorite console. Cartridges are great and I love the ones I have, but it's an incredibly expensive hobby and it's only getting worse. You might find yourself perfectly happy using just a flashcart with real hardware. I personally do. It was a happy medium for me, plus I am pretty lazy and don't really want to look through a huge catalog of games. It's the same reason I ripped all my DVDs some years ago to a hard drive. Another bonus with flashcarts is you can play unreleased or modified games on the real hardware, which is always cool. In short, what I am saying is that even if you want to collect physical carts, you're probably going to want a flash cart anyway to play the really expensive games or games that were never released here. I personally have a mixture of some carts (my absolute favorites) and flashcarts. Hope this helps! It is just my opinion but I gave you alternate avenues so you may go with what best suits you.

oh wow, I just saw the Nintendo 3DS direct and they are putting Mario Maker on the 3DS. That is so perfect because I love that game but it's rare I get to use my WiiU. This will be great!
