This would have been a good excuse to let the D originals pilot something else for one game (in a game with a ton of decent units that don't have locked pilots, no less) until the Very Moral Robot Science Staff made a safe alternative to the Sympathia.
I mean, it's not like there are some random two-seater robots sitting off to the side that can be used for the D Originals. Or close friends with connections to mech developers who can make custom units for them as well.

Try looking for those names, but seeing as the full OST for Moon Dwellers is not due until September 21st apparently, it might be a tad difficult to find it.

It's definitely closer to a dark blue color in Alpha 2/OG2 GBA. Everywhere else has leaned towards a more darker blue color that is almost borderline black, which is why I think some people assume Dygengar has a predominately black color scheme.

But the bigger issue is more that Ratsel can't get any additional bonuses from his #1 BFF, which is super lame.

Speaking of Alpha 3 originals what happens with Selena and who were those people who rescued her? I didn't take that route but I saw some video of it.
Those people are the FDX Team. From what I've read about them, they are kind of the SRW equivalent of DC's Suicide Squad, a team of mech pilots created sent on very dangerous missions that the military doesn't want to spend valuable resources on (like the Steel Dragons). Just minus the whole "everyone on the team are convicted criminals/supervillains" part. And no Amanda Waller equivalent in charge of the team, too. As for Selena, that was basically her Alpha 3 backstory (Team Jelba murdered by Spectra), just done on screen this time much like how they did Foglia's death in OG Gaiden.

ImpAtom posted:

Arado does okay but Seolla ends up dragged along way too long.
That particular plot is also not helped by OG2 presenting opportunities to end Arado's plot line in a neat and simple fashion, but then pulling a plot extension from some dark corner of its rear end in what comes off as padding the run time. I mentioned it in Seyser Koze's LP, but the "Scarlet Illusion" stage is designed as a perfect place for Seolla to be rescued and set in motion the finishing touches on Arado's plot. But nope, we have wait until the "breather stage after a super big plot event" 4 stages later to get Seolla back, then wait 3-4 more stages to actually finish the plot.

If anything, I'd say OG does not know how to balance the adapted storylines. Some get a lot of focus or more than they need to, while others barely register on the radar. Hell, the Guests are a perfect example of a big name villain group getting shunted off to the side like they were nothing, all so the Gaia Saber storyline can get the top billing.

Earlier people were talking about not liking SRW stories that feel like a military campaign, but I do miss the way you could look at the PTX series and see technology being developed. The Wildschwein is clearly the midway point between Gespenst and Huckebein. Then the Twin Birds got built as a midway between Alt Eisen/Weissritter and Huckebein Mk2. The in-fiction explanation for why there's no new Wildschwein is that it already did what it needed to do.

That said, The Inspectors anime replaced the MP Hucky with an MP Wildschwein; so if they wanted to, the game devs could do that. I suspect nobody feels the need, though.
That's because the MP Schwein is basically the MP Huck with a few proportion adjustments and the Circle Zanber weapon bolted on. Outside of the Circle Zanber, it could easily pass off as an MP Huckebein to an untrained eye. IMO, the MP Wildschwein is one of the more subtle methods The Inspector used to skirt whatever fuss Sunrise/Bandai raised over the Huckebein line.

But at this point, I think the matter is more that the OG universe hasn't really done much to upgrade the mass-produced side of robot development. Sure, Isurugi rolled out some new Lion models last game, but that was part of the Gaia Sabers' rise to power and what is seen in Moon Dwellers was probably leftover stock from Euzeth's rollout plan. Everywhere else seems to have gone all-in on the one-of-a-kind units or the limited production units, and the need for MP units for the playable roster has kind of stagnated. Hell, Mao Industries has slowly been shoved to the side so other things can take the spotlight. Even if part of the GC plot was to try and market a MP Soulsaber idea to the top brass, the end result seen in the next game is most likely going to be Soulsaber stays and their attempts to get a MP version fall apart for whatever reason.

Absolutely. I went into Z with no knowledge of either Baldios or God Sigma, as well as very little knowledge of Orguss, and still found the units from those shows entertaining to use. Even without factoring Kei's 20% damage dealt bonus against 99% of the enemies in the game, he was a fun unit to use just because of how versatile of a unit the Orguss is.

Actually SDF Macross is the only Macross I have seen. Will we ever see it again in a SRW game? Roy Focker, where are you? :(
The original Macross has a few issues that kind of prevents its comeback tour. The biggest is unfortunately Roy Focker himself, as his voice actor (the legendary Akira Kamiya) retired several years ago. Then there a few cases of VA deaths (IIRC, Hikaru's lines in various stuff over the past decade are just lines from the show or Do You Remember Love? and has never been recast) also preventing it from returning.

The best chance at SDF Macross returning would have been SRW L in 2010, which was the last non-voiced SRW made. Sadly, that was instead Frontier's big debut.

I reckon what they recorded for the Alphas and others ought to be more than enough.
Hikaru's VA died in 1996, well before the Alpha games were made. Roy, on the other hand, probably has plenty of lines from Alpha 1 and Alpha 3 (or even the Another Century's Episode games) to fill in the gap.

God Sigma had the excuse of "We've never recorded lines for this show before, so we can get away with it because they're technically new content and won't offend people". It also helped they had a big fan of the show on hand to jump at the opportunity.

If the "Use Grungust/Huckebein right out of the gate" DLC is any indication, it seems that the Originals made by the Cross Omega artist are the leads, with the other two Originals joining up later on. That said, the characters didn't have the usual "Main Character/Heroine" designation, so maybe we are getting selectable protagonists once again. Oh, okay. Now they make sense.

Kind of surprised the Hummingbird isn't also loaded with hilarious amounts of guns in the event where Deep Striker runs out of ammo and can borrow something from the escort so it too has something to attack with.
