ThaumPenguin posted:

I don't know about Immersive Weapons, but there are some other good sword mods out there that add high-tier weapons.

------

Billyroo has made some really neat-looking swords, and they've recently become available as a compilation.

Be aware that as of now, neither the individual sword mods nor the compilation have leveled lists, they're hidden away, and have to be found.

----

InsanitySorrow has some good swords as well:

The Thegn

The Thegn is a steel sword with ebony tier stats. Craftable only.

--

The Stamford

The Stamford is a steel sword with dwemer tier stats. Craftable only.

--

The Bastard

The Bastard is a two-handed steel sword with above steel tier stats. Craftable only.

----

"The Loners Sword"

"The Loners Sword" (yes, it's spelled that way) is a steel longsword with above deadric tier stats, and is hidden away in a certain cave.

You'll probably want to download Sharlikran's patch for it though, as the mod itself is very old.

----

You can also try out Morrowloot Ultimate, which prevents stuff like Daedric and Ebony equipment from being handed out to random NPCs.

ThaumPenguin posted:

I agree completely. For me, wearing finery while traversing Skyrim just doesn't feel right.

Which is why you might want to check out Brigandage, which adds a whole bunch of new armors that I think you might like!

There's also Common Clothes, by the same guy.

--

Oh and there's the Aesir Armor, which is a highly customizable armor set that fits right in with Skyrim's aesthetic.

Haven't tried it myself yet, but it seems really impressive!

It's been a few years but the masochist in me wants to play and mod this up again. Is texture pack combiner redundant now? I want to replace every single texture in the game with 2-4k textures because even the texture pack dlc ones suck. Is there an easy one stop shop to replace every single texture in the game. Seriously, it's really annoying to spend the time downloading all these great looking texture packs, then you walk past a wooden beam that looks like it belongs on an NES game and you can't figure out which mod would fix it.

About the ram issue - I could swear I had a plugin that allowed the game to use as up to 8gb of ram (not enb). Did I imagine this?

Also LOD mods. I was always pretty underwhelmed with what they did. Sure it was better but Skyrim LOD still sucked. Has there been any progress on that front?

You'll want to use the Skyrim Mod Combiner, rather than TPC, as the latter hasn't been touched in ages.

I tried seeing if I could make some titles with transparency, since I think that's neat.

Here's some samples:

Might have to go with something smaller.

e: And without the weird lines, don't really care for those.

Siets, maybe it would be a good idea to cover the ENB Mod Manager and Changer as well?

It could save people a lot of hassle when it comes to choosing and switching between ENBs.

Yeah that's what I meant. OK, installed most of the mandatory and some of quality of life mods I wanted. What's next? Clean with tes5edit, run loot, run wyre bash for a patch and run loot again?

You assume any of us ever got that far.

But yeah, that sounds about right.

Also, I think you can stop Wrye Bash from touching your load order, but I can't recall which setting it was.

I do however remember that MO let's you lock your load order, so you might want to try doing that before running Wrye Bash.

BTW, I think transparency would be good for the section banners but I really do like the font Mega64 used. Dunno what it is though.

It's called "Skyrim black" or something like that, I found it yesterday.

I'll try and see what I can do with it later.

ThaumPenguin
Oct 9, 2013

Oh and GunnerJ, how many pixels tall would you prefer the section banners to be?

The ones I posted were 100px tall, for reference.

ThaumPenguin
Oct 9, 2013

GunnerJ posted:

The ones up now are 100px but the text is about half that tall, I'd say. I really do like Mega64's style here, so something close to that.

Also, one other thing I'd ask: The "major" section headers (the ones with black backgrounds) should be visually distinct from the others in some way.

Thanks!

Would you like to keep the dragon insignias as well? It'd make the headers a bit more of a pain to make, at least with the method I'm using.

So I got my hands on the font Mega64 used, and I'd like to hear what you all think about this:

Cat Mattress posted:

It's kind of unreadable IMO.

Yeah I was worried about that, trouble is the "darks skyrim font" has a lot of negative space, and without some sort of background color (like from the frost sparkles here), it looks kinda weird.

Trouble with that is that I can't get those frost sparkles without also having the text become "foggy", which is annoying.

Here's how the font looks by default, for reference:

If I could fill the negative space in the text I'd be perfectly happy with it, but as it is right now I'm not too keen on the look.

Might experiment with some greys and see what I can come up with.

Mega64 posted:

Bold looks a little better to me (though still not perfect).

But I've no problem having the banners replaced by something better. It was a quick and dirty job anyway so if you want to improve/replace them knock yourself out.

That does make the font look a bit better!

I'd like to experiment a bit and see I if I can find something decent-looking, but I'm not sure how much I can achieve as long as I still need to deal with this font.

What the hell was the font maker thinking.

e: I might have found something.
e2: Nope.

I'd love to see what you can come up with!

I found this while messing around with GIMP's logo creator, and while it doesn't exactly fit with Skyrim's aesthetic, the glow effects seem to patch up the letters quite well.

Obviously I'm not suggesting we should go with lava letters, but some sort of mild(er) glow effects might be just what we need.

e: I'm done for the night, might see if I can come up with something tomorrow.

Seriously, it's a pain to deal with and it's just taking up space.

GunnerJ posted:

y0, Noble Skyrim users: What's the performance hit like, what's your graphics card, and are you using the performance version?

If you're using Mod Organizer, you just put it after Noble Skyrim in your mod order list (i.e., the left panel) and it will layer itself over whatever Noble Skyrim provides, might override a few of its textures but if you don't like that you can reverse the order. Unless I'm misunderstanding you.

Oh sorry, I was talking about SMC.

It's just gotten flagged red every time I've tried and I'm not quite sure why.

It's actually been at least a month since I last messed around with it.

Honestly, at this point I'd be content with jettisoning the entire thing and saving myself some hard-drive space.

ThaumPenguin

GunnerJ posted:

OK, I'm really rusty on how SMC works, what does "flagged red" mean?

Though, if you're just going to jettison SMC and use Noble Skyrim this is purely out of curiosity.

When you add a mod to SMC the mod title is assigned a color depending on whether it's set up correctly or not.

Green means all the right files are there and that they're set up correctly.

Red means it's not.

ThaumPenguin

GunnerJ posted:

Hm, iirc that means that the files weren't downloaded properly or something because it can't find them, so they need to be moved around or extracted a certain way or something...? I know that there was a way to resolve that because I had to do it a few times, but tbh I think at this point the best way to resolve it is called "installing Noble Skyrim" :v:

See the problem is that BoS isn't a single download, it's several, and SMC only lets you add one folder...

Also combining the folders manually didn't work for me either.
