Phantasium posted:It's what you get for posting in D&D. Or the Steam thread? The Steam thread has basically been a FOB for C-SPAM for the past week ever since somebody toxxed almost a thousand dollars worth of Steam games on outcome of the election and everyone used that as an excuse to constantly post about it. Since Palpek posts there all the time I'm assuming that means it's acceptable but it has been a really disappointing turn for what is normally a pretty OK thread.

So now they're another crappy Kotaku-esque pop culture/lifestyle blog in the name of driving clicks and Car Boys and Monster Factory are buried in a sea of "hey, remember [pop culture object]???" clickbait videos.

Wreck-It Ralph is such a goddam great movie, I watch it at least once a year and it's probably still my favorite thing Disney has done since they went full CGI. Some of the references to actual games in the first act of the movie are a little forced but everything about Jane Lynch's Samus/Master Chief character as a parody of modern shooter protagonists is still as on-point as ever.

After you finish the tutorial level go up along the cliff, not through the graveyard with the regenerating skeletons or down the elevator with the ghosts you can't hurt. Dark Souls' reputation as a hard and unforgiving game means unfortunately a lot of people keep running into an impossible meat grinder that they're supposed to come back to later in the game. Also, when you create your character don't choose the key as your gift, it's mostly something people are supposed to use to sequence break on later playthroughs and will just make you get lost and run into stuff long before you're equipped to deal with it.

I'm sure that Capcom is making them do some things differently in the name of chasing those mythical CoD numbers like every other Japanese publisher contracting a western studio has for the past two console generations, but almost all of the complaints people are making about DR4 are the same ones they made about DR3 before release and they wound up being hugely exaggerated or having little effect on how much I enjoyed playing it.TF2 HAT MINING RIG posted:Maybe maniacs are actually fun to fight instead of the terrible psychos. DR3 got some poo poo for having way fewer psychos than the previous games but they were all actually balanced so you could beat them without spending a previous playthrough grinding up your stats and cheesing the AI, and they each had a fairly decent gameplay gimmick instead of being Dude With Melee Weapon #8 and Dude With Gun #12. Has anybody pointed out that sex and violence are different things that are portrayed differently in media? It's important that this very hot take is driven home every time anything remotely involving genitals in media is met with scrutiny, especially if you can call people puritans or prudes while doing it.

I did like the thing EA was doing during the PS2 era where they were experimenting with sports games controlling by mimicking the in-game actions with the controller, like how in Tiger Woods PGA Tour instead of using a meter you actually drew back on the stick and then swung it forward. Or how in Fight Night you mimicked jabs, hooks, and haymakers by swinging the stick around.

E.V.O. might have some of the most disconnect between how much affection I have for the concept and style of the game compared to how much I actually enjoyed playing it. Even with savestates and a guide it was so grindy and frustrating to play but the goofiness of a lot of the game like the hidden human evolution and the alien badguy and the cute animal designs and little vignettes that would play out at each stage of the game were just so charming.

Quest For Glory II posted:apparently the AAA game industry is having a little bit of a crisis right now. according to PAL charts, Watch Dogs 2 sold only 20% of what Watch Dogs 1 sold in the same timeframe from launch. Similarly, Mankind Divided sold half of what Human Revolution sold, Gears of War 4 sold 25% of what GOW3 sold, Titanfall 2 sold 25% of what Titanfall 1 sold, Infinite Warfare sold half of what the last COD sold. Remember this is not "(X) launch week vs. (Y) lifetime sales" but "(X) sales after (Z) days vs (Y) sales after (Z) days" Aren't sales figures they repease only for physical copies? If so I imagine digital distribution on consoles becoming much more common is responsible for a lot of that, kind of like how PC sales figures always look abysmal because everyone just buys them from Steam.

FirstAidKite posted:Everything or Nothing wasn't perfect but it was fun that it often had multiple paths through certain levels (not all levels) and the gadgets and guns and stuff you had access to let you deal with situations in a variety of different ways. Yeah, third-person stealth action (with vehicle segments) was a much better fit for Bond than FPS and the open level design combined with all the optional Bond Moments you could unlock by playing cleverly (like sneaking around a group of enemies and using a steam vent to cook them alive instead of just shooting them) gave it a fair amount of replayability. Plus Willem Dafoe as a Bond villain with a platinum and nanomachines shtick.
