I love the democrats saying Ellison isn't as good of a fundraisers as _______, or that him being black or muslim is a liability.

If fundraising won elections, we'd be making guac bowl jokes about Jeb! right now, and Ellison consistently wins ~70% of the vote in his district, which is mostly white, has a median income ~$40,000. Not to mention MN is literally adjacent to WI and IA, and from my experience people from MN, WI, and MI, are pretty similar overall.

Really though all of this matters way less than the fact that Keith Ellison is the "Bernie" pick, and the DNC is shooting themselves in the foot if they take an opportunity to change their image and instead resurrect the primary battle that definitely didn't improve their chances of winning the 2016 election.

I'm probably risking sounding tinfoil hatish, but I would definitely not be surprised if there was/will be an active astroturfing campaign to try and discredit Sanders and economic populism using a false dichotomy of class vs _____ (race, gender, etc.). There's a lot of people invested in the DNC who don't want to see fair wages, real corporate tax reform etc.

I also noticed people who pit Sanders class-view as somehow unable to coexist with racial justice or de-prioritizing it never really offer their alternate solutions to addressing social issues.

A week after the election I got into an argument with a private college liberal who was 100% sure that Clinton only lost because of Racism and Misogyny and it was so close that the best bet forward was pouring more money into ads in the rust belt.

Ellison wins his district, which was the lowest turnout district in MN when he first ran, and is now the highest turnout district in MN, with ~70% of the vote, consistently.

The Democrats just need to have a simple message on gun control while also literally shouting that guns are good and the second amendment is important. Dems lose so many voters who are otherwise socially liberal because NRA propaganda is so effective.

You really can't say anything about gun control because there's no way it won't be twisted according to the paranoid style, into a secret slippery slope plot to take the guns away.

If you really want gun control to be politically viable then arm blacks, hispanics, and communists - then march them up and down every main street in formation. People will be begging for gun control then.

You can though, you just need a simple message and to not come off as not knowing nothing. People who are really into guns don't trust someone who talks about "assault rifles" and "clips", yeah it might seem like a dumb thing to get hung up on, but it makes those people not trust you. My dad was from rural Michigan and was a life long hunter and NRA member, he voted for both parties over the years, but voted for Bush twice because he lived in a poor area and didnt trust dems on guns. He voted for Obama twice as well.

the fact that were capable of electing someone like Donald Trump is a pretty good argument for keeping the populace armed.

My favorite post-election "analysis" is that Hillarys abysmal turnout was unrelated to downticket because "more people voted for Hillary in (state) than (downticket dem)".

So, serious question for a second. I know I've seen the name Chomsky mentioned for years in leftist circles, but I never really looked into his work. I guess, what I'm asking is, why doesn't he get talked about more or am I just ignorant about the topic?

Chomsky is the smartest person in the world, if you ever want a reason to hate a us president just read whatever Chomsky wrote about them.

I don't know how many of you may watch Pokemon XYZ, but this season Ash Ketchum made it to the final round of the championships for the first time in the series 20 year history.

He had the strongest team hr had ever had, and was really showing himself to be a much more experienced and wizened trainer than ever before. He even brought a pseudo legendary, Goodra, and developed a unique ability to bond with his Greninja never before seen in the series or games, making it extraordinarily powerful.

He made it to the last Pokemon vs Alain, who had a mega Charizard, meaning it's most powerful attacks has type disadvantage against Ash-Greninja. Even though the mega Charizard had thunder punch, Ash-Greninja deflected or dodged it every time. It came down to one giant water shuriken vs one giant blast burn.

Mega Charizard won the day. It was Ash's most grueling defeat in the series, but he took it in stride.

What I'm saying here though, and my main point, is Bernie would have won.

The dems need to focus on the working class over the next 4 years, affordable housing, single Payer/universal healthcare, increasing the minimum wage, tuition free public college/university, raising corporate taxes and closing loopholes to generate revenue, infrastructure improvement projects that train and hire unskilled workers etc.

There's a huge chunk of the populace that just doesn't vote, campaigning on issues that directly affect people and get them excited can turnout enough new voters to compensate the socially liberal and economically conservative voters that have hijacked the party and might drift over to Trump, most of these issues tend to poll well with independents.

I think americans don't care if they actually earn something or not, we just want to FEEL like we earned it

that's why we hate participation trophies

like, here's an idea: free collage is cool and is urgently needed, but people will immediately call it a give-away, and the people in rural communities especially will rightly connect it with the government encouraging further brain and talent drain from their community, they'll correctly see it as the government encouraging a further marginalization of their life and their history (even if they don't openly recognize those connections)

but what if instead, the government would subsidize your entire education if you worked for 20 hours a week in your home community on community service projects during your summer break, maybe even give them a little spending money they can put back into their home towns while they're at it, nothing much, like maybe $500 each summer or something on top of the education funding business

and a lot of people have A LOT of student debt that is just crushing them

what if the government would pay it off if you joined a civic corps and worked on projects in your home town one weekend a month and two weeks a year (this may sound familiar) for X number of years

like those kinds of programs would probably be decently received

What if instead, we just make it free, and pay for it with corporate tax dollars.
