Subsumption is basically the pipe dream that the NPCs actions aren't going to be scripted, instead every NPC will decide what to do based on priorities and they will be smart enough to go off and live virtual lives.

The show space battles / ship descriptions and Miller's investigation of Julie were huge sore spots for me. Also the crew wasn't properly introduced at all. It felt like a couple of strangers for way too many episodes.

Also Ganymede station was crazy in the book. In the show it was like "oh, well, that room wasn't the best place to be, oh well!"

There's just a lot of lost flavor. Less Holden's boring life is a plus though.

It would be better to watch the show and enjoy it and then read the book and appreciate it more

I mean, you can easily see what they've done. Because the UI is on the inside of the helmet they've programmed it to be something on the inside of the helmet, instead of just being an animated UX thing.
