thebardyspoon posted:I don't really see how it makes more sense in a Batman game than what they ended up doing though. Like I'm sure it would have worked but Batman henchman beating him up and upgrading (while not killing him or taking him to the boss) doesn't quite work as naturally as orcs did, just imo at least. If I had to do it I'd do a Court of Owls game and apply the system to the Talon assassins since they have the immortal recurring miniboss feeling that the Orc captains have.

Picked up Arkham ASylum and Arkham CIty on the cheap and getting my kid into it. Man, I played the hell out of these games back when and I'm really having trouble rediscovering the rhythm to the combat. But I'll be damned if they don't still hold up.

That basically looks like a superhero Xcom reskin which - and I can't stress this enough - I am absolutely perfectly okay with. Gimme gimme.

My biggest problem with it is the problem I have with a lot of superhero stuff in that it seems genuinely afraid to adopt actual superhero aesthetics so you get basically military-looking stuff, which is extra goofy in a game called Capes.

I was kind of wondering if anything ever came from it. It didn't look as good or as polished as this does. I imagine that if this gains any traction there will be a fairly good sized skin modding community.

Apparently the plot is about a dystopia where the villains of old took over and have been taking out anyone who shows up with powers apart from them. So I'm hoping part of the progression is your characters realising they need to start wearing costumes in the style of the old heroes or something. Otherwise yeah if they remain that drab through the whole game, it will be a bit of a bummer.

The far more likely option, however, is that this is a gritty, serious story for adults, not like your baby comic stories, because god forbid anyone have fun with comic book heroes.

muscles like this! posted:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y50b8yo9SHU Thanks for this link. Enjoying this channel. The Suicide Squad fiasco is amazing. You have a group of mostly street level villains who carry around boomerangs, baseball bats and one is a giant sharkman but let's give them all guns and make it a loot box game where everyone can (kind of) fly and the main reward is more guns. A SS game in the tradition of Arkham Asylum or even Arkham City might actually work but it seems like developers went "kids really like Fortnight, right? What if we did THAT?" I just grabbed the two games I mentioned above for cheap and they hold up really well. Take that basic template and divide up the levels in a way where each character is unique with different movesets. If you have to have a huge shootout, save it for the finale and let Deadshot snipe enemies and Boomerang doing boomerang poo poo while Harley and Shark clean up the ground areas.

It amazes me how perma death is a video game mechanic with real history (albeit not particularly popular with the casual audience) and Suicide Squad as a concept is all about the threat of perma-death and somehow the two concepts never did meet, and instead you got some dumb looter shooter thing Hell the X-Com formula would've been a great fit for Suicide Squad. I would intentionally get the Joker killed! And then maybe you have to do a boss fight where Batman is mad about it

I'd try to have like a pool of 25 dc villains, and then a CAC system. Your actual team in missions is like 6 so in an ideal run you got 5 of your faves and you, but realistically you end up with loving Riddler and Deadshot still alive and the other 4 slots are procedurally generated CACs you recruited. Gotta contend that Riddler is dead weight but Master Magenta with his thighs that don't quite fit the rest of the model survived enough missions to be your strongest unit.
