Serf posted:K not being Deckard's son was awesome. I like a good twist, but the thing was that he had been building a new identity based on the idea that he was special, something that Joi was feeding into. But then he finds out that he's not special, and while ruminating on that fact he encounters the giant Joi. The difference between her and his Joi is what makes him understand that it doesn't matter that he's not Deckard's son. He's special because he thought he was. The way I see it, K is special because of his actions, not his identity. He's told that he's the chosen one and that he's special, and then it's all ripped away from him. He no longer has a personal stake in saving Deckard, who is no longer his father, but he does so anyways because it seemed like the right thing to do. He found meaning in his life by dying for a selfless cause, not because of who his parents were Steve Yun fucked around with this message at 00:09 on Oct 8, 2017 |

I'll have to see it over again to make sure but I got the feeling from the film that when it portrayed female subservience, the film was portraying the subservience in a bad light. K goes through the movie surrounded by things that tickle the need for men to feel special, and he outgrows them eventually. I got the sense that what's really on trial here is the male insecurity and loneliness that leads men to buy a hologram girlfriend Steve Yun fucked around with this message at 21:49 on Oct 8, 2017 |

Rachel has brown eyes in the first movie. Wallace trots out Rachel. Deckard: "Her eyes... were green!" Wallace shoots Rachel. Did Deckard just gaslight Wallace by lying about Rachel's eye color?

For me, it was the epic drums/horns coupled with flying vehicles that had a lot of glowing lines. Something else that caught my eye was how little of Los Angeles was even powered. When K first returns from the farms, he flies over LA and most of it is gray and dark, with the lights only on in major streets. Did most of the population die in famines, and the survivors congregated to major streets? Or do most of the inhabitants of LA live in darkness and poverty? It was an incredibly spooky image, and no explanation was given.

Blade Runner 2049's Rachel was also computer effects. If you stay during the end credits there was an entire studio dedicated to facial effects. Villeneueueve also said in an interview that he basically did the same thing that Rogue One did with Tarkin (CG touchup on a live actor, but unlike Rogue One spending a few months on it, BR2049 spent an entire year on Rachel and studied Rogue One as a case study of what mistakes not to make.

Listened to some of the soundtrack on Youtube. I think maybe in hindsight I was being unfair to Zimmer. When he's mimicking Vangelis I tended to not notice, and when he did anything that wasn't like Vangelis I tended to notice a lot.
